1 ¶ Tout Israël s’assembla auprès de David à Hébron, en disant : Voici, nous sommes tes os et ta chair.
11:1-29:30
Cette section livre une description sélective du règne de David. Elle s’intéresse tout particulièrement à l’arrivée de l’arche à Jérusalem et aux préparatifs en vue de la construction du temple.
2 Autrefois déjà, même lorsque Saül était roi, c’était toi qui conduisais et qui ramenais Israël. L’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’a dit : Tu paîtras mon peuple d’Israël, et tu seras le chef de mon peuple d’Israël.
3 Ainsi tous les anciens d’Israël vinrent auprès du roi à Hébron, et David fit alliance avec eux à Hébron, devant l’Éternel. Ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël, selon la parole de l’Éternel, prononcée par Samuel.
4 David marcha avec tout Israël sur Jérusalem, qui est Jebus. Là étaient les Jébusiens, habitants du pays.
5 Les habitants de Jebus dirent à David : Tu n’entreras point ici. Mais David s’empara de la forteresse de Sion : c’est la cité de David.
6 David avait dit : Quiconque battra le premier les Jébusiens sera chef et prince. Joab, fils de Tseruja, monta le premier, et il devint chef.
7 David s’établit dans la forteresse ; c’est pourquoi on l’appela cité de David.
8 Il fit tout autour de la ville des constructions, depuis Millo et aux environs ; et Joab répara le reste de la ville.
9 David devenait de plus en plus grand, et l’Éternel des armées était avec lui.
10 ¶ Voici les chefs des vaillants hommes qui étaient au service de David, et qui l’aidèrent avec tout Israël à assurer sa domination, afin de l’établir roi, selon la parole de l’Éternel au sujet d’Israël.
11 Voici, d’après leur nombre, les vaillants hommes qui étaient au service de David. Jaschobeam, fils de Hacmoni, l’un des principaux officiers. Il brandit sa lance sur trois cents hommes, qu’il fit périr en une seule fois.
Jaschobeam … Hacmoni. en #1Ch 27:2, Jaschobeam est présenté comme le fils de Zabdiel. Hacmoni pourrait donc être son grand-père (#1Ch 27:32). Le chiffre de « huit cents » fourni en #2S 23:8 correspond probablement à une erreur de copiste.
12 Après lui, Eléazar, fils de Dodo, l’Achochite, l’un des trois guerriers.
13 Il était avec David à Pas-Dammim, où les Philistins s’étaient rassemblés pour combattre. Il y avait là une pièce de terre remplie d’orge ; et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.
14 Ils se placèrent au milieu du champ, le protégèrent, et battirent les Philistins. Et l’Éternel opéra une grande délivrance.
15 Trois des trente chefs descendirent auprès de David sur le rocher dans la caverne d’Adullam, lorsque le camp des Philistins était dressé dans la vallée des Rephaïm.
16 David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléhem.
17 David eut un désir, et il dit : Qui me fera boire de l’eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléhem ?
18 Alors les trois hommes passèrent au travers du camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l’eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléhem. Ils l’apportèrent et la présentèrent à David ; mais David ne voulut pas la boire, et il la répandit devant l’Éternel.
19 Il dit : Que mon Dieu me garde de faire cela ! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie ? Car c’est au péril de leur vie qu’ils l’ont apportée. Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois vaillants hommes.
20 Abischaï, frère de Joab, était le chef des trois. Il brandit sa lance sur trois cents hommes, et les tua ; et il eut du renom parmi les trois.
21 Il était le plus considéré des trois de la seconde série, et il fut leur chef ; mais il n’égala pas les trois premiers.
22 Benaja, fils de Jehojada, fils d’un homme de Kabtseel, rempli de valeur et célèbre par ses exploits. Il frappa les deux lions de Moab. Il descendit au milieu d’une citerne, où il frappa un lion, un jour de neige.
23 Il frappa un Égyptien d’une stature de cinq coudées et ayant à la main une lance comme une ensouple de tisserand ; il descendit contre lui avec un bâton, arracha la lance de la main de l’Égyptien, et s’en servit pour le tuer.

This section provides a selective description of the reign of David. She is particularly interested in the arrival of the ark in Jerusalem and in preparations for the construction of the temple.
2 In the past, even when Saul was king, it was you who were leading and bringing Israel back. The LORD your God said to you, "You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be the head of my people Israel."
3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king in Hebron, and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD. They anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD, spoken by Samuel.
4 And David went with all Israel to Jerusalem, which is Jebus. There were the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land.
5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said unto David, Thou shalt not go in here. But David took the fortress of Zion, which is the city of David.
6 And David said, Whosoever shall beat the Jebusites first shall be chief and prince. And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and became chief.
7 And David dwelt in the stronghold; Therefore he was called the city of David.
8 And he made all the cities round about the city, from Millo, and from the midst thereof; And Joab repaired the rest of the city.
9 And David became exceeding great, and the LORD of hosts was with him.
10 ¶ These are the leaders of the valiant men who were in the service of David, and helped him with all Israel to secure his dominion, that he might be king over the word of Jehovah concerning Israel.
11 Behold, by their number, the valiant men that were in the service of David. Jaschobeam, son of Hacmoni, one of the principal officers. He brandished his spear with three hundred men, which he killed at one time.
Jaschobeam ... Hacmoni. In # 1Ch 27: 2, Jaschobeam is presented as the son of Zabdiel. Hacmoni could therefore be his grandfather (# 1Ch 27:32). The figure of "eight cents" provided in # 2S 23: 8 probably corresponds to a copyist's error.
12 After him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Achochite, one of the three warriors.
13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim, where the Philistines had gathered to fight. There was a piece of land filled with barley; And the people fled before the Philistines.
14 And they stood in the midst of the field, and protected him, and smote the Philistines. And the LORD performed great deliverance.
15 And three of the thirty chiefs went down to David on the rock in the cave of Adullam, when the camp of the Philistines was erected in the valley of the Rephaim.
16 Then David was in the fortress, and there was a post of Philistines in Bethlehem.
17 And David had a desire, and said, Who shall make me drink of the water of the cistern which is at the gate of Bethlehem?
18 Then the three men passed through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water from the cistern which is at the gate of Bethlehem. They brought it and presented it to David; But David would not drink it, and he poured it out before Jehovah.
19 He said, "May God forbid me to do that! Would I drink the blood of these men who have gone to the peril of their lives? For it was at the peril of their life that they brought it. And he would not drink it. This is what these three valiant men did.
20 Abishai the brother of Joab was the chief of the three. He brandished his spear at three hundred men, and killed them; And he was renowned among the three.
21 He was the most considered of the three of the second series, and he was their chief; But it did not equal the first three.
22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a man of Kabzeel, full of valor and fame by his deeds. And he smote the two lions of Moab. He descended into the midst of a cistern, where he struck a lion on a snowy day.
23 He smote an Egyptian of a stature of five cubits, and having in his hand a lance like a weaver's beam; He went down against him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and used it to kill him.
