1 CHRONIQUES 12 : 1 à 40 *** +
1 ¶ Voici ceux qui se rendirent auprès de David à Tsiklag, lorsqu’il était encore éloigné de la présence de Saül, fils de Kis. Ils faisaient partie des vaillants hommes qui lui prêtèrent leur secours pendant la guerre.
12:1-40
Ces événements précèdent ceux de 11:1-47. Ils sont en rapport avec le séjour de David à Tsiklag (vv. #1Ch 12:1-22) et à Hébron (vv. #1Ch 12:23-40) et correspondent au récit fait en #1S 27-2S 5.
Tsiklag. Ville située au sud, près de la frontière avec Edom. Les Philistins, qui en avaient le contrôle, établirent David gouverneur de la ville. C’était à l’époque où celui-ci était poursuivi par le roi Saül, alors en fin de règne (#1S 27:6-7), avant sa propre accession au pouvoir sur tout Israël (cf. v. #1Ch 12:38).
12:1-14
Des hommes de Benjamin (vv. #1Ch 12:2-3, #1Ch 12:16-18), Gad (vv. #1Ch 12:8-15), Juda (vv. #1Ch 12:16-18) et Manassé (vv. #1Ch 12:19-22) vinrent aider David à combattre ses ennemis, des deux côtés du Jourdain (v. #1Ch 12:15).
2 C’étaient des archers, lançant des pierres de la main droite et de la main gauche, et tirant des flèches avec leur arc : ils étaient de Benjamin, du nombre des frères de Saül.
3 Le chef Achiézer et Joas, fils de Schemaa, de Guibea ; Jeziel, et Péleth, fils d’Azmaveth ; Beraca ; Jéhu, d’Anathoth ;
4 Jischmaeja, de Gabaon, vaillant parmi les trente et chef des trente ; Jérémie ; Jachaziel ; Jochanan ; Jozabad, de Guedéra ;
5 Éluzaï ; Jerimoth ; Bealia ; Schemaria ; Schephathia, de Haroph ;
6 Elkana, Jischija, Azareel, Joézer et Jaschobeam, Koréites ;
7 Joéla et Zebadia, fils de Jerocham, de Guedor.
8 Parmi les Gadites, des hommes vaillants partirent pour se rendre auprès de David dans la forteresse du désert, des soldats exercés à la guerre, armés du bouclier et de la lance, semblables à des lions, et aussi prompts que des gazelles sur les montagnes.
9 Ezer, le chef ; Abdias, le second ; Éliab, le troisième ;
10 Mischmanna, le quatrième ; Jérémie, le cinquième ;
11 Attaï, le sixième ; Eliel, le septième ;
12 Jochanan, le huitième ; Elzabad, le neuvième ;
13 Jérémie, le dixième ; Macbannaï, le onzième.
14 C’étaient des fils de Gad, chefs de l’armée ; un seul, le plus petit, pouvait s’attaquer à cent hommes, et le plus grand à mille.
15 Voilà ceux qui passèrent le Jourdain au premier mois, lorsqu’il débordait sur toutes ses rives, et qui mirent en fuite tous les habitants des vallées, à l’orient et à l’occident.
au premier mois. En mars/avril, au moment où le Jourdain était en crue en raison de la fonte des neiges au nord. Ces Gadites firent la traversée d’est en ouest.
16 Il y eut aussi des fils de Benjamin et de Juda qui se rendirent auprès de David dans la forteresse.
17 David sortit au-devant d’eux, et leur adressa la parole, en disant : Si vous venez à moi dans de bonnes intentions pour me secourir, mon cœur s’unira à vous ; mais si c’est pour me tromper au profit de mes ennemis, quand je ne commets aucune violence, que le Dieu de nos pères le voie et qu’il fasse justice !
18 Amasaï, l’un des principaux officiers, fut revêtu de l’esprit, et dit : Nous sommes à toi, David, et avec toi, fils d’Isaï ! Paix, paix à toi, et paix à ceux qui te secourent, car ton Dieu t’a secouru ! Et David les accueillit, et les plaça parmi les chefs de la troupe.
l’Esprit. Le Saint-Esprit revêtit temporairement Amasaï pour assurer David de la loyauté des hommes de Benjamin et de Juda ainsi que de la bénédiction divine.
19 Des hommes de Manassé se joignirent à David, lorsqu’il alla faire la guerre à Saül avec les Philistins. Mais ils ne furent pas en aide aux Philistins ; car, après s’être consultés, les princes des Philistins renvoyèrent David, en disant : Il passerait du côté de son maître Saül, au péril de nos têtes.
20 Quand il retourna à Tsiklag, voici ceux de Manassé qui se joignirent à lui : Adnach, Jozabad, Jediaël, Micaël, Jozabad, Élihu et Tsilthaï, chefs des milliers de Manassé.
21 Ils prêtèrent leur secours à David contre la troupe des pillards Amalécites, car ils étaient tous de vaillants hommes, et ils furent chefs dans l’armée.
22 Et de jour en jour des gens arrivaient auprès de David pour le secourir, jusqu’à ce qu’il eût un grand camp, comme un camp de Dieu.
23 ¶ Voici le nombre des hommes armés pour la guerre qui se rendirent auprès de David à Hébron, afin de lui transférer la royauté de Saül, selon l’ordre de l’Éternel.
12:23-37
David régna sept ans et six mois à Hébron, avant d’être établi roi de la nation tout entière et de pouvoir déménager à Jérusalem (#2S 2:1-5:2). Le récit forme une boucle et revient à #1Ch 11:1ss.
24 Fils de Juda, portant le bouclier et la lance, six mille huit cents, armés pour la guerre.
25 Des fils de Siméon, hommes vaillants à la guerre, sept mille cent.
26 Des fils de Lévi, quatre mille six cents ;
27 et Jehojada, prince d’Aaron, et avec lui trois mille sept cents ;
28 et Tsadok, vaillant jeune homme, et la maison de son père, vingt-deux chefs.
29 Des fils de Benjamin, frères de Saül, trois mille ; car jusqu’alors la plus grande partie d’entre eux étaient restés fidèles à la maison de Saül.
30 Des fils d’Éphraïm, vingt mille huit cents, hommes vaillants, gens de renom, d’après les maisons de leurs pères.
31 De la demi-tribu de Manassé, dix-huit mille, qui furent nominativement désignés pour aller établir roi David.
32 Des fils d’Issacar, ayant l’intelligence des temps pour savoir ce que devait faire Israël, deux cents chefs, et tous leurs frères sous leurs ordres.
33 De Zabulon, cinquante mille, en état d’aller à l’armée, munis pour le combat de toutes les armes de guerre, et prêts à livrer bataille d’un cœur résolu.
34 De Nephthali, mille chefs, et avec eux trente-sept mille, portant le bouclier et la lance.
35 Des Danites, armés pour la guerre, vingt-huit mille six cents.
36 D’Aser, en état d’aller à l’armée et prêts à combattre : quarante mille.
37 Et de l’autre côté du Jourdain, des Rubénites, des Gadites, et de la demi-tribu de Manassé, avec toutes les armes de guerre, cent vingt mille.
38 Tous ces hommes, gens de guerre, prêts à combattre, arrivèrent à Hébron en sincérité de cœur pour établir David roi sur tout Israël. Et tout le reste d’Israël était également unanime pour faire régner David.
12:38-40
Cette fête est associée au couronnement de David en #2S 5.
39 Ils furent là trois jours avec David, mangeant et buvant, car leurs frères leur avaient préparé des vivres.
40 Et même ceux qui habitaient près d’eux jusqu’à Issacar, à Zabulon et à Nephthali, apportaient des aliments sur des ânes, sur des chameaux, sur des mulets et sur des bœufs, des mets de farine, des masses de figues sèches et de raisins secs, du vin, de l’huile, des bœufs et des brebis en abondance, car Israël était dans la joie.

1 ¶ And they that went unto David at Ziklag, when he was yet far from the presence of Saul the son of Kish. They were among the valiant men who helped him during the war.
12: 1-40
These events precede those of 11: 1-47. They are related to David's stay at Ziklag (vv. # 1Ch 12: 1-22) and Hebron (vv. # 1Ch 12: 23-40) and correspond to the story made in # 1S 27-2S 5.
Tsiklag. Town located to the south, near the border with Edom. The Philistines, who had control over it, established David as governor of the city. This was at the time when King Saul was pursuing him, then at the end of his reign (# 1S 27: 6-7), before his accession to power over all Israel (cf. # 1Ch 12 38).
12: 1-14
Men of Benjamin (vv. # 1Ch 12: 2-3, # 1Ch 12: 16-18), Gad (vv. # 1Ch 12: 8-15), Judah Manasseh (vv. 1Ch 12: 19-22) came to help David to fight his enemies on both sides of the Jordan (v. # 1Ch 12:15).
2 They were archers, throwing stones in the right hand and with the left hand, and shooting arrows with their bow: they were of Benjamin, of the number of the brethren of Saul.
3 The chief Achiezer and Joash, the son of Shemaah, of Gibeah; Jeziel, and Peleth, the son of Azmaveth; Beraca; Jehu of Anathoth;
4 Jischmaeja of Gibeon, valiant among the thirty and chief of the thirty; Jeremiah; Jachaziel; Jochanan; Jozabad, of Guedera;
5 Eluzai; Jerimoth; Bealia; Schemaria; Schephathia, of Haroph;
6 Elkanah, and Jischiah, and Azareel, and Joezer, and Jaschobeam, and Korahites;
7 Joelah and Zebadiah the son of Jerocham of Gedor.
8 Among the Gadites, valiant men went to go to David in the fortress of the wilderness, soldiers in war, armed with shields and spears, like lions, and as quick as gazelles on the mountains .
9 Ezer the chief; Obadiah the second; Eliab the third;
10 Mischmanna, the fourth; Jeremiah the fifth;
Attai, the sixth; Eliel the seventh;
12 Joanan the eighth; Elzabad, the ninth;
13 Jeremiah the tenth; Macbannai, the eleventh.
14 These were the sons of Gad, the captains of the army; One, the smallest, could attack a hundred men, and the greatest one.
15 These were they who passed over the Jordan in the first month, when it overflowed upon all its banks, and put to flight all the inhabitants of the valleys to the east and to the west.
In the first month. In March / April, when the Jordan was in flood due to the melting of snow in the north. These Gadites crossed from east to west.
16 And there were sons of Benjamin and Judah, who went to David in the stronghold.
17 And David went out to meet them, and spake unto them, saying, If ye come to me with good intentions to help me, my heart shall be joined unto you; But if it be to deceive me for the benefit of my enemies, when I do not commit any violence, let the God of our fathers see it and do justice!
18 Amasai, one of the chief officers, was clothed with wit, and said, We are yours, David, and with you the son of Jesse. Peace, peace to thee, and peace to those who succor thee, for thy God has helped thee. And David received them, and set them over the captains of the company.
the mind. The Holy Spirit temporarily clothed Amasai to assure David of the loyalty of the men of Benjamin and Judah as well as of the divine blessing.
19 And men of Manasseh joined David, when he went to war against Saul with the Philistines. But they did not help the Philistines; For after they had consulted, the princes of the Philistines sent David away, saying, "He will pass by his master Saul, at the peril of our heads."
20 When he returned to Ziklag, the men of Manasseh joined them: Adnach, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Tsilthai, chief of the thousands of Manasseh.
21 They gave David aid against the company of the Amalekites, for they were all valiant men, and they were chiefs in the army.
22 And day by day people came to David to help him, until he had a great camp, like a camp of God.
23 ¶ And the number of the men who were armed for the war came to David in Hebron, that he might transfer to him the kingdom of Saul according to the commandment of the LORD.
12: 23-37
David reigned seven years and six months in Hebron before being established king of the whole nation and able to move to Jerusalem (# 2S 2: 1-5: 2). The narrative forms a loop and returns to # 1Ch 11: 1ss.
24 The sons of Judah, carrying shields and spears, six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war.
25 Of the sons of Simeon, men of valor in war, seven thousand and one hundred.
26 Of the sons of Levi, four thousand and six hundred;
27 And Jehoiada, prince of Aaron, and with him three thousand seven hundred;
28 And Zadok, valiant young man, and the house of his father, twenty-two chiefs.
29 Of the sons of Benjamin, brothers of Saul, three thousand; For hitherto the greater part of them had remained faithful to the house of Saul.
30 Of the sons of Ephraim, twenty thousand and eight hundred, valiant men, men of renown, from the houses of their fathers.
31 Of the half tribe of Manasseh, eighteen thousand, who were nominally appointed to go and establish king David.
32 Of the sons of Issachar, having understanding of the times to know what Israel was to do, two hundred chiefs, and all their brethren under their command.
33 Of Zebulun, fifty thousand, able to go into the army, armed for battle with all the weapons of war, and ready to battle with a resolute heart.
34 Of Naphtali, a thousand chiefs, and with them thirty-seven thousand, carrying the shield and the spear.
35 Of the Danites, armed for war, twenty-eight thousand six hundred.
36 Of Asher, ready to go into the army, ready to fight: forty thousand.
37 And on the other side Jordan, and the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, with all the weapons of war, a hundred and twenty thousand.
38 All these men of war, ready to fight, came to Hebron with sincerity of heart to establish David king over all Israel. And all the rest of Israel was also unanimous in making David reign.
12: 38-40
This feast is associated with the coronation of David in # 2S5.
39 They were there with David three days, eating and drinking, for their brethren had prepared food for them.
40 And they that dwelt near them, even to Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought food upon asses, camels, mules and oxen, and meal of flour, and dried figs And raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance: for Israel was in joy.
