8 ¶ A cette occasion, et dans le même temps, quelques Chaldéens s’approchèrent et accusèrent les Juifs.
9 Ils prirent la parole et dirent au roi Nebucadnetsar : O roi, vis éternellement !
10 Tu as donné un ordre d’après lequel tous ceux qui entendraient le son de la trompette, du chalumeau, de la guitare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la cornemuse, et de toutes sortes d’instruments, devraient se prosterner et adorer la statue d’or,
11 et d’après lequel quiconque ne se prosternerait pas et n’adorerait pas serait jeté au milieu d’une fournaise ardente.
12 Or, il y a des Juifs à qui tu as remis l’intendance de la province de Babylone, Schadrac, Méschac et Abed-Nego, hommes qui ne tiennent aucun compte de toi, ô roi ; ils ne servent pas tes dieux, et ils n’adorent point la statue d’or que tu as élevée.
13 Alors Nebucadnetsar, irrité et furieux, donna l’ordre qu’on amenât Schadrac, Méschac et Abed-Nego. Et ces hommes furent amenés devant le roi.
14 Nebucadnetsar prit la parole et leur dit : Est-ce de propos délibéré, Schadrac, Méschac et Abed-Nego, que vous ne servez pas mes dieux, et que vous n’adorez pas la statue d’or que j’ai élevée ?
15 Maintenant tenez-vous prêts, et au moment où vous entendrez le son de la trompette, du chalumeau, de la guitare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la cornemuse, et de toutes sortes d’instruments, vous vous prosternerez et vous adorerez la statue que j’ai faite ; si vous ne l’adorez pas, vous serez jetés à l’instant même au milieu d’une fournaise ardente. Et quel est le dieu qui vous délivrera de ma main ?

quelques Chaldéens. Il s’agissait probablement de prêtres de Bel-Merodac qui ressentaient une jalousie dévorante à l’égard de ces jeunes Juifs et cherchaient donc à les faire mourir.
3:12
ils ne servent pas … n’adorent point. Les ennemis de ces serviteurs de Dieu rendirent un témoignage on ne peut plus clair à leur intégrité: il ne faisait aucun doute qu’ils rejetaient l’idolâtrie et restaient fermement attachés au Dieu d’Israël.
3:13
ces hommes. Daniel n’était pas associé, dans le témoignage des Chaldéens, à ce refus d’adorer la statue. S’il avait été présent, il se serait sans aucun doute associé aux autres Juifs qui témoignaient ainsi de leur fidélité au vrai Dieu.
3:15
quel est le dieu? Le défi du roi allait se retourner contre lui et beaucoup l’embarrasser. Le vrai Dieu allait prouver qu’il était capable de délivrer les siens, tout comme il avait été capable de révéler un songe et sa signification. Nebucadnetsar l’avait, certes, un peu plus tôt présenté comme le « Dieu des dieux » (#Da 2:47), mais il n’avait plus prêté attention à cette vérité, et il allait être ébranlé et humilié lorsque Dieu relèverait son défi (#Da 3:28-29).

¶ 8 On this occasion , and at the same time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews .
9 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live forever !
10 Thou hast made a decree , that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute , harp , sackbut , psaltery , dulcimer , and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden statue,
11 and whoso does not fall down and worship shall be cast not in the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
12 However, there are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach , Meshach, and Abednego , men who ignore you, O king ; they do not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up .
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach , Meshach, and Abednego . And they brought these men before the king.
14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it intentionally , Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego , that you do not serve my gods , and you do not worship the golden image which I have set up?
15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute , harp , sackbut , psaltery , dulcimer , and all kinds of music, ye fall down and you worship the image which I have made; if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is that God that shall deliver you from my hand?

certain Chaldeans . It was probably priests of Bel- Marduk who felt a burning jealousy of these young Jews therefore sought to kill him.
3:12
they do not serve nor worship ... . The enemies of these servants of God went a witness could not be more clear in their integrity : there was no doubt they rejected idolatry and remained firmly committed to the God of Israel.
3:13
these men. Daniel was not involved in the testimony of the Chaldeans, that refusal to worship the statue. Had he been present , he would undoubtedly associated with other Jews and showed their loyalty to the true God .
3:15
what god ? The king's challenge would turn against him and many embarrass . The true God would prove that he was able to deliver his people , as he was able to reveal a dream and its meaning. Nebuchadnezzar had , indeed, earlier described as the " God of gods " ( # Da 2:47 ), but he had not paid attention to this truth, and he would be shocked and humiliated when God raise its challenge (# Da 3:28-29 ) .
