21 Le reste reviendra, le reste de Jacob, Au Dieu puissant.
22 Quand ton peuple, ô Israël, serait comme le sable de la mer, Un reste seulement reviendra ; La destruction est résolue, elle fera déborder la justice.
23 Et cette destruction qui a été résolue, Le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées, l’accomplira dans tout le pays.
24 ¶ Cependant, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées : O mon peuple, qui habites en Sion, ne crains pas l’Assyrien ! Il te frappe de la verge, Et il lève son bâton sur toi, comme faisaient les Égyptiens.
25 Mais, encore un peu de temps, Et le châtiment cessera, Puis ma colère se tournera contre lui pour l’anéantir.
26 L’Éternel des armées agitera le fouet contre lui, Comme il frappa Madian au rocher d’Oreb ; Et, de même qu’il leva son bâton sur la mer, Il le lèvera encore, comme en Égypte.
27 En ce jour, son fardeau sera ôté de dessus ton épaule, Et son joug de dessus ton cou ; Et la graisse fera éclater le joug.
28 Il marche sur Ajjath, traverse Migron, Laisse ses bagages à Micmasch.
29 Ils passent le défilé, Ils couchent à Guéba ; Rama tremble, Guibea de Saül prend la fuite.
30 Fais éclater ta voix, fille de Gallim ! Prends garde, Laïs ! malheur à toi, Anathoth !
31 Madména se disperse, Les habitants de Guébim sont en fuite.
32 Encore un jour de halte à Nob, Et il menace de sa main la montagne de la fille de Sion, La colline de Jérusalem.
33 Voici, le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées, Brise les rameaux avec violence : Les plus grands sont coupés, Les plus élevés sont abattus.
34 Il renverse avec le fer les taillis de la forêt, Et le Liban tombe sous le Puissant.

Même si l’armée assyrienne parvint effectivement jusqu’aux remparts de Jérusalem, le Seigneur souverain l’Éternel des armées - intervint et la renvoya chez elle en la privant de la victoire. Esaïe rapporta plus tard l’accomplissement littéral de cette prophétie (#Esa 37:24, #Esa 37:36-38 ; cf. #2R 19:35-37 ; #2Ch 32:21).

Liban. L’A.T. assimile l’Assyrie à la chaîne du Liban (#Ez 31:3 ; cf. #Esa 2:13 ; #Esa 37:24).

21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.
22 When thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant will return; Destruction is decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23 And the destruction that has been resolved, the Lord, the LORD of hosts will accomplish throughout the country.
24 ¶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian He shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, as did the Egyptians.
25 For yet a little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger is turned against him to destroy him.
26 The LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge against him, as he smote Midian at the rock of Oreb; And, as his rod over the sea, He will lift, as in Egypt.
27 In that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck; And fat will break the yoke.
28 He goes on Ajjath through Migron, at Michmash Leave luggage.
29 They spend the parade, they lodging at Geba; Rama aspen, Gibeah of Saul flees.
30 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim! Beware, Lais! woe to Anathoth
31 Madmenah disperses, the inhabitants of Guébim are fugitives.
32 Another day at Nob, and he shakes his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
33 Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: The greatest are cut, the higher are slaughtered.
34 He overturns with iron thickets of the forest, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

punishment. Referring to the period of the captivity of Israel (Isaiah 26:20 #, # Da 11:36). The promise here is that it will end with the return of the Messiah (Isaiah 11:1-16 #).

Midian ... Egypt. Isaiah chose two examples from the past to illustrate the future deliverance of Israel Gideon's victory over the Midianites (# Jug 7:25) and the elimination of the Egyptians who pursued the Israelites into the Red Sea (Ex # 14: 16 # Ex 14:26-27).

burden ... yoke. The disappearance of this yoke refers to the future liberation of Israel: it will no longer be enslaved to foreign oppressors.
10:28-32 Isaiah described the Assyrian army from the north to melt over Jerusalem. In As she approached, the city name was mentioned more and more familiar to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10:33
breeze ... cut ... cut down. Although the Assyrian army actually came to the walls of Jerusalem, the sovereign Lord, the LORD of hosts - intervened and sent her home by depriving it of victory. Isaiah later reported the literal fulfillment of this prophecy (Isaiah 37:24 #, # Isa 37:36-38;. 19:35-37 cf # 2R, # 2Ch 32:21).

Lebanon. The A. T. assimilates Assyria chain Lebanon (# Ez 31:3;. # Esa cf 2:13; # Esa 37:24).
