ÉSAÏE 19 : 16 À 25 ***
16 En ce jour, l’Égypte sera comme des femmes : Elle tremblera et aura peur, En voyant s’agiter la main de l’Éternel des armées, Quand il la lèvera contre elle.
17 Et le pays de Juda sera pour l’Égypte un objet d’effroi : Dès qu’on lui en parlera, elle sera dans l’épouvante, A cause de la résolution prise contre elle par l’Éternel des armées.
18 ¶ En ce temps-là, il y aura cinq villes au pays d’Égypte, Qui parleront la langue de Canaan, Et qui jureront par l’Éternel des armées : L’une d’elles sera appelée ville de la destruction.
19 En ce même temps, il y aura un autel à l’Éternel Au milieu du pays d’Égypte, Et sur la frontière un monument à l’Éternel.
20 Ce sera pour l’Éternel des armées un signe et un témoignage Dans le pays d’Égypte ; Ils crieront à l’Éternel à cause des oppresseurs, Et il leur enverra un sauveur et un défenseur pour les délivrer.
21 Et l’Éternel sera connu des Égyptiens, Et les Égyptiens connaîtront l’Éternel en ce jour-là ; Ils feront des sacrifices et des offrandes, Ils feront des vœux à l’Éternel et les accompliront.
22 Ainsi l’Éternel frappera les Égyptiens, Il les frappera, mais il les guérira ; Et ils se convertiront à l’Éternel, Qui les exaucera et les guérira.
23 En ce même temps, il y aura une route d’Égypte en Assyrie : Les Assyriens iront en Égypte, et les Égyptiens en Assyrie, Et les Égyptiens avec les Assyriens serviront l’Éternel.
24 En ce même temps, Israël sera, lui troisième, Uni à l’Égypte et à l’Assyrie, Et ces pays seront l’objet d’une bénédiction.
25 L’Éternel des armées les bénira, en disant : Bénis soient l’Égypte, mon peuple, Et l’Assyrie, œuvre de mes mains, Et Israël, mon héritage !

19:16-24 Après avoir décrit la misère de l’Égypte (vv. #Esa 19:1-15), le prophète tourna les regards vers la conversion finale de cette nation à Dieu (« en ce jour », v. 16). Il faisait allusion au règne millénaire de Christ. De tels événements ne sont pas encore survenus en Égypte.

femmes … tremblera et aura peur. Le jugement de Dieu paralysera les forces de l’Égypte, tant et si bien que ses habitants prendront conscience de leur impuissance et de leur vulnérabilité.

Juda sera pour l’Égypte un objet d’effroi. Alors que Juda craignait l’Égypte, ce sera l’inverse qui se produira alors. La grande puissance de Dieu, déployée en faveur d’Israël, en sera la cause (cf. #Ex 10: 7 ; #Ex 12: 33). Tout cela s’accomplira lors du retour de Christ.

cinq villes. Humainement parlant, il n’y avait guère de chances que même une seule ville d’Égypte se tourne vers le Seigneur, mais dans une perspective divine, il y en aura 5 fois plus.

la langue de Canaan. C’est-à-dire la langue parlée par Juda. Non seulement l’Égypte devra craindre Juda (v. #Esa 19: 17), mais elle devra aussi se convertir à son culte.
jureront par l’Éternel des armées. L’Égypte se tournera vers Dieu de façon spectaculaire. Cette prophétie anticipe le règne du roi davidique en personne sur la terre.
ville de la destruction. Probablement la « ville du soleil », c’est-à-dire Héliopolis, centre d’adoration des divinités égyptiennes liées au soleil (voir « Beth Schémesch », #Jér 43:12-13).

autel à l’Éternel … monument. Images de la conversion de l’Égypte à l’Éternel « en ce même temps », c’est-à-dire lorsque le Messie régnera sur la terre (cf. #Ge 28:22).

16 In that day shall Egypt be like women: They will tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, he shakes against her.
17 And the land of Judah will be for Egypt a horror: As soon as you talk to him, it will be dismayed, because of the resolution taken against her by the Lord of hosts.
¶ 18 In the meantime, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts: One of them will be called The city of destruction.
19 In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD the midst of the land of Egypt, and a monument on the border to the Lord.
20 It shall be to the Lord of hosts a sign and a witness in the land of Egypt; They cry to the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a savior and defender to deliver them.
21 And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day; They will make sacrifices and offerings, and they shall make vows to the LORD, and perform it.
22 So the LORD will smite the Egyptians, he shall smite and heal it; And they shall return to the Lord, Who will hear them and heal them.
23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians Jehovah.
24 In that day shall Israel be him third with Egypt and Assyria, and these countries will be a blessing.
25 The LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel my inheritance!

19: 16-24 After describing the misery of Egypt (vv 19 #Esa. 1-15), the Prophet turned his face toward the final conversion of this nation to God ("in that day", v 16. ). He was referring to the millennial reign of Christ. Such events have not yet occurred in Egypt.

women ... will tremble and fear. God's judgment will paralyze the forces of Egypt, so much so that its people will become aware of their helplessness and vulnerability.
19: 17
Judah will be for Egypt a horror. While Judah feared Egypt, it will be the reverse happens then. The great power of God, deployed in support of Israel, will be the cause (cf. #Ex 10: 7; #Ex 12: 33). All this will be accomplished at the return of Christ.
19: 18
five cities. Humanly speaking, there was little chance that even one town in Egypt turns to the Lord, but in a divine perspective, there will be 5 times.

the language of Canaan. That is to say, the language of Judah. Not only Egypt will fear Judah (v #Esa 19. 17), but it will also convert to his religion.
swear by the Lord of hosts. Egypt will turn to God dramatically. This prophecy anticipates the reign of the Davidic king in person on earth.
The city of destruction. Probably the "city of the sun", that is to say, Heliopolis, the center of worship of Egyptian deities associated with the sun (see "Beth Shemesh", # Jer 43: 12-13).

these countries will be a blessing. Israel will then become what God had planned for him a blessing to the world (#Ge 12: 3; #Esa 42: 6; contrast with 1: 2).

my people ... out of my hands. Elsewhere in Scripture, these qualifiers are for Israel (#Esa 10:24; #Esa 29:23; #Esa 43: 6-7; #Esa 45:11; #Esa 60:21; #Esa 64: 8 ; #PS 100: 3; #PS 110: 3; #PS 138: 8; # Jer 11: 4; #Os 1:10 #Os 2:23).
