ÉSAÏE 60 : 1 À 12 ***
1 ¶ Lève-toi, sois éclairée, car ta lumière arrive, Et la gloire de l’Éternel se lève sur toi.
2 Voici, les ténèbres couvrent la terre, Et l’obscurité les peuples ; Mais sur toi l’Éternel se lève, Sur toi sa gloire apparaît.
3 Des nations marchent à ta lumière, Et des rois à la clarté de tes rayons.
4 Porte tes yeux alentour, et regarde : Tous ils s’assemblent, ils viennent vers toi ; Tes fils arrivent de loin, Et tes filles sont portées sur les bras.
5 Tu tressailliras alors et tu te réjouiras, Et ton cœur bondira et se dilatera, Quand les richesses de la mer se tourneront vers toi, Quand les trésors des nations viendront à toi.
6 Tu seras couverte d’une foule de chameaux, De dromadaires de Madian et d’Épha ; Ils viendront tous de Séba ; Ils porteront de l’or et de l’encens, Et publieront les louanges de l’Éternel.
7 Les troupeaux de Kédar se réuniront tous chez toi ; Les béliers de Nebajoth seront à ton service ; Ils monteront sur mon autel et me seront agréables, Et je glorifierai la maison de ma gloire.
8 Qui sont ceux-là qui volent comme des nuées, Comme des colombes vers leur colombier ?
9 ¶ Car les îles espèrent en moi, Et les navires de Tarsis sont en tête, Pour ramener de loin tes enfants, Avec leur argent et leur or, A cause du nom de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, Du Saint d’Israël qui te glorifie.
10 Les fils de l’étranger rebâtiront tes murs, Et leurs rois seront tes serviteurs ; Car je t’ai frappée dans ma colère, Mais dans ma miséricorde j’ai pitié de toi.
11 Tes portes seront toujours ouvertes, Elles ne seront fermées ni jour ni nuit, Afin de laisser entrer chez toi les trésors des nations, Et leurs rois avec leur suite.
12 Car la nation et le royaume qui ne te serviront pas périront, Ces nations-là seront exterminées.

60:1-2
la gloire de l’Éternel … ténèbres … obscurité … sa gloire. S’adressant à Sion (v. #Esa 60:14 ; #Esa 59:20), Esaïe affirma à la capitale, et donc à toute la nation, d’Israël que le temps de recevoir la lumière viendrait pour elle, par contraste avec les nations du monde, plongées dans les ténèbres. Il exprimait ainsi la gloire de Jérusalem durant le royaume millénaire.
60:3
nations marchent. La lumière de Jérusalem attirera les autres nations, qui chercheront à dissiper leurs ténèbres (#Esa 2:3). Après le jour de l’Éternel, seuls les Juifs et non-Juifs croyants entreront dans le royaume terrestre, mais, au cours de ces mille ans, des enfants naîtront; les nations se peupleront donc de personnes susceptibles de rejeter Jésus-Christ. La gloire et la grande puissance du roi de Jérusalem attireront les païens vers la lumière divine.
60:4
s’assemblent … fils … filles. Nouvelle promesse que le reste fidèle d’Israël sera rassemblé (#Esa 49:18, #Esa 49:22).
60:5
tu te réjouiras … richesses. La joie et l’abondance matérielle seront deux bénédictions supplémentaires apportées par le royaume à venir d’Israël, comme l’expriment symboliquement les vv. #Esa 60:6-7 (#Esa 23: 18 ; #Esa 24: 14 ; #Esa 61:6).
60:6
Madian … Épha … Séba. Les descendants de « Madian », fils qu’Abraham avait eu de Ketura (#Ge 25:1-2), habitaient les zones désertiques situées à l’est du Jourdain. « Épha » était l’un des fils de Madian (#Ge 25: 4) dont les descendants s’étaient installés sur la côte est du golfe Élanitique. « Séba » était une région d’Arabie renommée pour sa grande richesse (#1R 10:1-2).
60:7
Kédar … Nebajoth. Les descendants de « Kédar », un fils d’Ismaël (#Ge 25: 13), vivaient dans le désert, entre la Syrie et la Mésopotamie. Les Nabatéens, habitants de la cité arabe de Pétra, descendaient probablement de « Nebajoth », le fils aîné d’Ismaël (#Ge 25: 13).
Sur mon autel … agréable. Pendant le millénium, les sacrifices d’animaux apportés par d’autres nations ajouteront à la gloire de la maison de Dieu (v. #Esa 60:13)
60:8
volent comme des nuées … colombes. Langage figuré évoquant la rapidité de l’afflux des païens vers Jérusalem.
60:9
îles … navires de Tarsis … argent … or. Jouissant de la faveur du Seigneur, Sion attirera l’attention du monde entier (#Esa 23: 1 ; #Esa 41:1). Les navires marchands apporteront de riches trésors à Jérusalem, mais ils y ramèneront aussi le reste fidèle d’Israël.
60:10
rebâtiront tes murs. La reconstruction des murailles de Jérusalem, avec l’aide des rois de Perse, ne fut qu’un avant-goût de la reconstruction finale de cette ville, avec l’aide des païens, lors du retour de Christ sur la terre.
dans ma colère … ma miséricorde. Même si les rapports entre Dieu et Israël étaient largement marqués par la colère, l’œuvre à venir démontrera la faveur de Dieu envers son peuple.
60:11
Tes portes seront toujours ouvertes. Dans le royaume à venir, tous jouiront d’un libre accès à Jérusalem (#Esa 26:2 ; #Esa 62:10 ; #Ap 21:25-26).
60:12
la nation … périront. A l’avenir, seules les nations qui auront conclu un accord avec Israël survivront (#Esa 11:13-14 ; #Esa 14: 2 ; #Esa 49:23). Le Seigneur régnera sur elles avec une verge de fer (cf. #Ps 2:7-12).

2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples; But the LORD will rise upon you his glory appears.
3 Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
4 Lift up thine eyes, and see: they all gather together, they come to you; Your son come from afar, and your daughters are carried in the arms.
5 Thou tressailliras and then you shall rejoice, and your heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
6 You will be covered with a multitude of camels, dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; They will all come from Sheba They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord.
7 The flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee; The rams of Nebaioth will be at your service; They come up on my altar and will be agreeable to me, and I will glorify the house of my glory.
8 Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?
9 ¶ For the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish are in the lead, To bring your sons from afar, with their silver and gold, to the name of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel glorify you.
10 The son of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister For I struck you in my wrath, but in my favor I pity you.
11 Your gates will be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night, that men may bring to you the wealth of nations, and their kings may be brought.
12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

60: 1-2
the glory of the Lord ... darkness ... darkness ... his glory. Speaking to Zion (v #Esa 60:14;. #Esa 59:20), Isaiah stated to the capital, and therefore to the whole nation of Israel that the time of receiving the light would come for her, in contrast with the nations of the world plunged into darkness. He thus expressed the glory of Jerusalem during the millennial kingdom.
60: 3
Gentiles. Light of Jerusalem will attract other nations, who will seek to dispel their darkness (#Esa 2: 3). After the day of the Lord, only Jews and non-Jewish believers will enter the earthly realm, but during those thousand years, children will be born; nations inhabit so people likely to reject Jesus Christ. The glory and the great power of the king of Jerusalem attract pagans to the divine light.
60: 4
assemble ... son ... girls. New promise that remains faithful of Israel will be gathered (#Esa 49:18, 49:22 #Esa).
60: 5
thou shalt rejoice ... wealth. Joy and material abundance will be two additional blessings brought by the coming kingdom of Israel, as symbolically express vv. #Esa 60: 6-7 (#Esa 23: 18; #Esa 24: 14; #Esa 61: 6).
60: 6
Midian Ephah ... ... Sheba. The descendants of "Midian" son Abraham had Keturah (#Ge 25: 1-2), lived in the desert areas east of the Jordan. "Ephah" was a son of Midian (#Ge 25: 4) whose descendants had settled on the east coast of Élanitique Gulf. "Sheba" was an Arabian region renowned for its richness (# 1R 10: 1-2).
60: 7
Kedar ... Nebajoth. The descendants of "Kedar," a son of Ishmael (#Ge 25: 13), lived in the desert between Syria and Mesopotamia. The Nabataeans, Arab residents of the city of Petra, probably descended from "Nebaioth", the eldest son of Ishmael (#Ge 25: 13).
On my altar ... nice. During the millennium, animal sacrifices made by other nations will add to the glory of the house of God (v. #Esa 60:13)
60: 8
fly as a cloud ... doves. Imagery evoking the rapid influx of pagans to Jerusalem.
60: 9
ships of Tarshish Islands ... ... money ... gold. Enjoying the favor of the Lord, Zion will draw the attention of the whole world (#Esa 23: 1; #Esa 41: 1). Merchant ships will bring rich treasures in Jerusalem, but they also bring back the faithful remnant of Israel.
60:10
build up your walls. The rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, with the help of the kings of Persia, was only a foretaste of the final reconstruction of the city, with the help of the Gentiles at the return of Christ on earth.
in my anger ... my mercy. Although the relationship between God and Israel were largely characterized by anger, the work ahead will demonstrate God's favor towards his people.
60:11
Your gates will always be open. In the coming kingdom, all will enjoy free access to Jerusalem (#Esa 26: 2; 62:10 #Esa; #Ap 21: 25-26).
60:12
... the nation will perish. In the future, only nations which have concluded an agreement with Israel will survive (#Esa 11: 13-14; #Esa 14: 2; 49:23 #Esa). The Lord will rule them with a rod of iron (see #PS 2: 7-12).
