ÉSAÏE 7 : 1 À 09 ***
1 ¶ Il arriva, du temps d’Achaz, fils de Jotham, fils d’Ozias, roi de Juda, que Retsin, roi de Syrie, monta avec Pékach, fils de Remalia, roi d’Israël, contre Jérusalem, pour l’assiéger ; mais il ne put l’assiéger.
2 On vint dire à la maison de David : Les Syriens sont campés en Ephraïm. Et le cœur d’Achaz et le cœur de son peuple furent agités, comme les arbres de la forêt sont agités par le vent.
3 Alors l’Éternel dit à Esaïe : Va à la rencontre d’Achaz, toi et Schear-Jaschub, ton fils, vers l’extrémité de l’aqueduc de l’étang supérieur, sur la route du champ du foulon.
4 Et dis-lui : Sois tranquille, ne crains rien, Et que ton cœur ne s’alarme pas, Devant ces deux bouts de tisons fumants, Devant la colère de Retsin et de la Syrie, et du fils de Remalia,
5 De ce que la Syrie médite du mal contre toi, De ce qu’Ephraïm et le fils de Remalia disent:
6 Montons contre Juda, assiégeons la ville, Et battons-la en brèche, Et proclamons-y pour roi le fils de Tabeel.
7 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Cela n’arrivera pas, cela n’aura pas lieu.
8 Car Damas est la tête de la Syrie, Et Retsin est la tête de Damas. Encore soixante-cinq ans, Ephraïm ne sera plus un peuple.
9 La Samarie est la tête d’Ephraïm, Et le fils de Remalia est la tête de la Samarie. Si vous ne croyez pas, Vous ne subsisterez pas.

7:1-2 Une infructueuse tentative d’invasion de Juda par la Syrie et par les dix tribus du nord eut pour conséquence la présence continue sur le sol d’Israël des forces assyriennes du roi Tiglath-Piléser. Consécutive de peu à l’intronisation d’Achaz (vers 735 av. J.-C.), cette menace contre leur propre sécurité effrayait le roi et la population de Juda. Voir #2Ch 28:5-8, #2Ch 28:17-19.

maison de David. Allusion à la dynastie de David, personnifiée par le roi de cette époque, Achaz.

Schear-Jaschub. Littéralement « un reste reviendra ». La présence du fils d’Esaïe constituait une leçon de choses à propos de la fidélité de Dieu pour les authentiques croyants qui vivaient au milieu de son peuple.

ne crains rien. Le message d’Esaïe au roi Achaz visait à le rassurer: les deux rois qui voulaient envahir Juda ne parviendraient pas à l’emporter.
7:8
Ephraïm ne sera plus un peuple. Cette tribu représentait l’ensemble des dix tribus du nord, dont le prophète prédit la défaite à cause de leur idolâtrie (cf. #Os 4:17). Elles cesseraient effectivement, 65 ans plus tard, de former une nation, d’abord en raison de la déportation de la plupart de leurs habitants vers 722 av. J.-C. (#2R 17: 6), ensuite du fait d’une immigration étrangère massive vers 670 av. J.-C. (#2R 17: 24 ; #2Ch 33: 11 ; #Esd 4:2).

ne croyez pas … ne subsisterez pas. Le choix revenait à Achaz: il pouvait faire confiance à la parole du Seigneur ou tomber entre les mains des ennemis ou, pire encore, plonger son cœur dans l’endurcissement (#Esa 6:9-10).

1 ¶ It happened in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Romelia king of Israel, against Jerusalem, the besiege; but could not prevail against it.
2 And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And the heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.
3 Then the LORD said to Isaiah, Go out to meet Ahaz, thou, and Schear-Jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.
4 And tell him: Do not worry, fear not, but let your heart not alarmed, because of these two tails of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Romelia,
5 From what Syria meditates evil against thee, From Ephraim and the son of Romelia say:
6 Let us go up against Judah, besieging the city, and fighting it in the face, and proclaim there for Tabeel king's son.
7 Thus saith the Lord GOD: It will not happen, it will not happen.
8 For the head of Damascus is Syria, and Rezin is the head of Damascus. Another sixty-five years Ephraim will be a people.
9 Samaria is the head of Ephraim, and the son of Romelia is the head of Samaria. If you do not believe, you shall not be.

house of David. Referring to the Davidic dynasty, personified by the king of that time, Ahaz.
7:3
Schear-Jashub. Literally "a remnant shall return." The presence of the son of Isaiah was a lesson about God's faithfulness to the true believers who lived in the midst of his people.

fear nothing. The message of Isaiah to King Ahaz sought to reassure the two kings who wanted to invade Judah would fail to win.
7:8
Ephraim shall not a people. This tribe represented all ten northern tribes, the prophet predicted the defeat because of their idolatry (cf. # Bones 4:17). They actually cease, 65 years later, form a nation, first because of the deportation of most of their inhabitants to 722 BC. BC (2R # 17: 6), then due to massive foreign immigration to 670 BC. BC (2R # 17: 24; # 2Ch 33: 11; # Ezra 4:2).
7:9
do not believe ... do not be established. The choice Ahaz returned: he could trust the word of God or fall into the hands of enemies, or worse, diving into his heart hardening (# Isa 6:9-10).
