EXODE 11 : 1 À 10 + ***
1 ¶ L’Éternel dit à Moïse : Je ferai venir encore une plaie sur Pharaon et sur l’Égypte. Après cela, il vous laissera partir d’ici. Lorsqu’il vous laissera tout à fait aller, il vous chassera même d’ici.
11:1-3
L’Éternel dit. Ou « l’Éternel avait dit ». Ce paragraphe rapporte ce que Dieu avait déjà dit à Moïse pendant les trois jours de ténèbres afin de le préparer à la convocation du Pharaon et de préparer Israël à recevoir les bijoux et autres biens des Égyptiens. La générosité des Égyptiens n’est expliquée que par l’intervention divine (cf. #Ex 12:35-36), de même que le grand respect manifesté par les chefs et le peuple de ce pays envers les conducteurs d’Israël.
2 Parle au peuple, pour que chacun demande à son voisin et chacune à sa voisine des vases d’argent et des vases d’or.
3 L’Éternel fit trouver grâce au peuple aux yeux des Égyptiens ; Moïse lui-même était très considéré dans le pays d’Égypte, aux yeux des serviteurs de Pharaon et aux yeux du peuple.
4 ¶ Moïse dit : Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Vers le milieu de la nuit, je passerai au travers de l’Égypte ;
Vers le milieu de la nuit. Le jour n’est pas précisé comme lors des précédentes plaies. Il s’agit soit de la nuit directement consécutive à la dernière entrevue avec le Pharaon, soit d’une nuit postérieure de quelques jours. Si les directives pour l’institution de la Pâque (#Ex 12:1-20) ne furent pas transmises pendant les jours de ténèbres, quatre jours au minimum étaient nécessaires pour préparer cette fête spéciale, c’est-à-dire les dixième au quatorzième du mois (#Ex 12:3, #Ex 12:6).
je passerai. Dieu était bien sûr impliqué d’une manière ou d’une autre dans toutes les plaies, mais cette fois, pour assurer de son intérêt tout personnel, il affirma qu’il passerait lui-même dans le pays. Notons la forme future dans les instructions relatives à la Pâque (#Ex 12:12-13).
11:4-8
Moïse dit. La réaction de Moïse à la menace du Pharaon comprend l’annonce de la dernière plaie et son propre départ dans l’irritation. La menace de mort prononcée par le roi appelait une menace similaire de la part de Dieu. Au « sortez » adressé aux porte-parole de Dieu et d’Israël répondrait le « sortez » des Égyptiens aux Israélites.
5 et tous les premiers-nés mourront dans le pays d’Égypte, depuis le premier-né de Pharaon assis sur son trône, jusqu’au premier-né de la servante qui est derrière la meule, et jusqu’à tous les premiers-nés des animaux.
le premier-né. Le premier-né occupait une position particulièrement importante dans la famille et la société: non seulement il héritait d’une double part des biens paternels, mais il représentait aussi des qualités spéciales de vie et de puissance (cf. #Ge 49:3). En Égypte, c’était lui qui accédait au trône et perpétuait la dynastie. Quelle qu’ait été son importance du point de vue religieux, politique, dynastique ou social, tout fut balayé par l’étendue et l’intensité de la plaie, qui signifia l’exécution de tous les premiers-nés de toutes les classes de la population, y compris des animaux.
6 Il y aura dans tout le pays d’Égypte de grands cris, tels qu’il n’y en a point eu et qu’il n’y en aura plus de semblables.
Cette plaie devait se révéler si terrible que son caractère unique dans l’histoire de l’Égypte fut mentionné dans l’avertissement.
7 Mais parmi tous les enfants d’Israël, depuis les hommes jusqu’aux animaux, pas même un chien ne remuera sa langue, afin que vous sachiez quelle différence l’Éternel fait entre l’Égypte et Israël.
A l’opposé des troubles et des souffrances des Égyptiens, le calme régna sur le territoire israélite, au point qu’aucun chien n’aboya. La distinction évidente que l’Éternel opérait entre les deux peuples était un fait que personne ne pouvait nier.
8 Alors tous tes serviteurs que voici descendront vers moi et se prosterneront devant moi, en disant : Sors, toi et tout le peuple qui s’attache à tes pas ! Après cela, je sortirai. Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon, dans une ardente colère.
9 L’Éternel dit à Moïse : Pharaon ne vous écoutera point, afin que mes miracles se multiplient dans le pays d’Égypte.
10 Moïse et Aaron firent tous ces miracles devant Pharaon, et Pharaon ne laissa point aller les enfants d’Israël hors de son pays. Exode

1 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go from here. When you let go completely, he will drive you out hence.
11: 1-3
The Lord said. Or "the Lord had said." This paragraph relates that God had already told Moses during the three days of darkness in order to prepare for the convening of the Pharaoh and preparing Israel to receive the jewelry and other property of the Egyptians. The generosity of the Egyptians is explained by divine intervention (cf. #Ex 12: 35-36), as the great respect shown by the leaders and the people of this country against Israeli drivers.
2 Speak to the people, and let every man his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, silver and jewels of gold.
3 The LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; Moses himself was very great in the land of Egypt in the sight of Pharaoh's servants and in the eyes of the people.
4 ¶ And Moses said, Thus saith the Lord: By the middle of the night I will pass through Egypt;
By the middle of the night. The day is not specified as in the previous wounds. It is either the directly consecutive night at the last meeting with the Pharaoh, or a night after a few days. If the guidelines for the institution of the Passover (#Ex 12: 1-20) were not passed in the days of darkness, at least four days were needed to prepare this special holiday, that is to say, the tenth the fourteenth of the month (#Ex 12: 3, #Ex 12: 6).
I'll pass. God was of course involved in one way or another in all wounds, but this time to ensure his personal interest, he stated that he would spend himself in the country. Let the future shape in the Passover instructions (#Ex 12: 12-13).
11: 4-8
Moses said. Moses respond to the threat of Pharaoh includes the announcement of the final plague and his own departure in irritation. The death threat uttered by the king called a similar threat from God. To "pull" addressed the spokesman of God and Israel meet the "pull" of the Egyptians to the Israelites.
5 and all the first-born will die in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstlings born animals.
the firstborn. The first-born occupied a particularly important position in the family and society: not only inherit a double share of the father's property, but it also represented the special qualities of life and power (cf. #Ge 49: 3) . In Egypt, it was he who acceded to the throne and the dynasty perpetuated. Whatever its importance from a religious point of view, political, dynastic or social, all were swept by the extent and intensity of the wound, which meant the execution of all the firstborn of all classes population, including animals.
6 There will be in all the land of Egypt with a great shout, such that there was none and that there will be more similar.
This wound was to prove so terrible that its unique character in the history of Egypt was mentioned in the warning.
7 But all the children of Israel, both man and beast, not a dog move his tongue, that ye may know that the Lord makes between Egypt and Israel.
In contrast to the troubles and suffering of the Egyptians, calm reigned over the Jewish territory, to the point that no dog barked. The obvious distinction that the Lord was operating between the two peoples was a fact that nobody can deny.
8 And all these thy servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, Go forth, you and all the people that attaches to your step! After that I will go out. Moses went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.
9 The LORD said to Moses, Pharaoh will not listen to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.
10 Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, and he did not let the children of Israel out of his land. Exodus
