ÉZÉKIEL 17 : 11-12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-20-21 ***
11 La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
12 Dis à la maison rebelle : Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie ? Dis : Voici, le roi de Babylone est allé à Jérusalem, il en a pris le roi et les chefs, et les a emmenés avec lui à Babylone.
13 Il a choisi un membre de la race royale, a traité alliance avec lui, et lui a fait prêter serment, et il a emmené les grands du pays,
14 afin que le royaume fût tenu dans l’abaissement, sans pouvoir s’élever, et qu’il gardât son alliance en y demeurant fidèle.
15 Mais il s’est révolté contre lui, en envoyant ses messagers en Egypte, pour qu’elle lui donnât des chevaux et un grand nombre d’hommes. Celui qui a fait de telles choses réussira-t-il, échappera-t-il ? Il a rompu l’alliance, et il échapperait !
16 Je suis vivant ! dit le Seigneur, l’Eternel, c’est dans le pays du roi qui l’a fait régner, envers qui il a violé son serment et dont il a rompu l’alliance, c’est près de lui, au milieu de Babylone, qu’il mourra.
17 Pharaon n’ira pas avec une grande armée et un peuple nombreux le secourir pendant la guerre, lorsqu’on élèvera des terrasses et qu’on fera des retranchements pour exterminer une multitude d’âmes.
18 Il a méprisé le serment, il a rompu l’alliance ; il avait donné sa main, et il a fait tout cela ; il n’échappera pas !
19 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Je suis vivant ! c’est le serment fait en mon nom qu’il a méprisé, c’est mon alliance qu’il a rompue. Je ferai retomber cela sur sa tête.
20 J’étendrai mon rets sur lui, et il sera pris dans mon filet ; je l’emmènerai à Babylone, et là je plaiderai avec lui sur sa perfidie à mon égard.
21 Tous les fuyards de toutes ses troupes tomberont par l’épée, et ceux qui resteront seront dispersés à tous les vents. Et vous saurez que moi, l’Eternel, j’ai parlé.

lui a fait prêter serment. La parabole est abondamment expliquée. Babylone (v. #Ez 17:12) avait fait de Sédécias un vassal, pris des captifs et veillé à ce que Juda demeure un pays faible (vv. #Ez 17:13-14). Sédécias rompit cette alliance (v. #Ez 17:15) dans laquelle il avait juré au nom de l’Eternel de se soumettre à Babylone (#2Ch 36:13) - pour se tourner vers l’Egypte. Celle-ci ne lui serait d’aucun secours, car il se retrouverait captif à Babylone jusqu’à la fin de ses jours (vv. #Ez 17:16, #Ez 17:19 ; #Jér 39:4-7). L’Egypte ne serait donc pas en mesure de le protéger, ni lui ni son armée (v. #Ez 17:21).

11 The word of the LORD came unto me , saying :
12 Say to the rebellious house, Do not you know what that means ? Saying , Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem , he took the king and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon.
13 He chose a member of the royal family , and made a covenant with him, and he has sworn , and he took great country ,
14 That the kingdom might be base , unable to rise , and he kept his covenant by remaining faithful .
15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and a large number of men. Whoever did such things succeed there , he escape ? He hath broken the covenant , and yet escape?
16 I am alive! says the Lord GOD , that is in the country of the king who made him king, to whom he has violated his oath and he hath broken the covenant , that is close to him in the midst of Babylon he shall die .
17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and many people for him in the war , when they cast up mounds and will make forts, to cut off many persons .
18 Because he hath despised the oath he hath broken the covenant , he had given his hand, and he did all this, he will not escape !
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD : I am alive! this is my oath that he hath despised , and my covenant that he hath broken . I will bring it on his head.
20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him on his perfidy towards me.
All 21 fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds. And you shall know that I the LORD have spoken.

he swore . The parable is thoroughly explained. Babylon (v. # Ez 17:12) Zedekiah had made a vassal, taken captive and ensured that Judah remains a weak country (vv. # Ez 17:13-14 ) . Zedekiah broke this covenant (v. # Ez 17:15) in which he had sworn in the name of the Lord to submit to Babylon (# 2Ch 36:13 ) - to turn to Egypt. It would not help him , because he would find himself captive in Babylon until the end of his life (vv. # Ez 17:16 , 17:19 # Ez ; # Jer 39:4-7 ) . Egypt would not be able to protect him, neither he nor his army (see # Ez 17:21 ) .
