15 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Parce que les Philistins se sont livrés à la vengeance, Parce qu’ils se sont vengés dédaigneusement et du fond de l’âme, Voulant tout détruire, dans leur haine éternelle,
16 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Voici, j’étends ma main sur les Philistins, J’extermine les Kéréthiens, Et je détruis ce qui reste sur la côte de la mer.
17 J’exercerai sur eux de grandes vengeances, En les châtiant avec fureur. Et ils sauront que je suis l’Eternel, Quand j’exercerai sur eux ma vengeance.

les Philistins. Cf. #Esa 14: 29-32 ; #Jér 47 ; #Joe 3:4 ; #Am 1:6-8 ; #Ab 19 ; #Sop 2:4-7 ; #Za 9:5. Ils furent frappés de jugement à cause de leur hostilité chronique et de leur esprit de vengeance envers Israël, qui remontait à #Jug 13: 1-16:@. Ils n’arrêtèrent pas de harceler et d’oppresser Israël, jusqu’à ce que David mette un terme à leur domination sous le règne de Saül (#1S 17). Ils se rebellèrent à maintes occasions mais furent chaque fois soumis par Israël. Nebucadnetsar envahit leur pays (#Jér 47).

Kéréthiens. Originaires de Crète, ils constituèrent une partie de la nation philistine (voir la note sur 1 S 30:14 {==> "1S 30:14"}), et certains servirent même au sein de la garde rapprochée de David (#2S 8:18 ; #2S 15: 18).

grandes vengeances. Cela s’accomplit lors de l’invasion de Babylone en 588-586 av. J.-C. ou en 582/581 av. J.-C. (cf. #Jér 25: 20 ; #Jér 47:1-7).

15 Thus saith the Lord God : Because the Philistines have engaged in revenge, Because they have taken vengeance with despite and bottom of the soul, to destroy it , in the old hatred;
16 Thus saith the Lord GOD : Behold, I will stretch out my hand upon the Philistines , I cut off the Cherethims , And I destroy what remains on the coast of the sea
17 And I will execute great vengeance upon them , in the with furious rebukes . And they shall know that I am the LORD , when I shall lay my vengeance upon them .

the Philistines . See Esa # 14: 29-32 ; Jer # 47, # Joe 3:4 ; # Am 1:6-8 ; Ab # 19 , # Sop 2:4-7 ; # Za 9:5 . They were struck by judgment because of their chronic hostility and their revenge against Israel , dating from Jug # 13: 1-16 : @ . They did not stop to harass and oppress Israel until David put an end to their domination during the reign of Saul ( 1S # 17). They rebelled many times but each time were submitted by Israel . Nebuchadnezzar invaded their country ( # Jer 47).

Kerethites . From Crete , they formed part of the Philistine nation (see note 1 S 30:14 { == > " 1S 30:14 "}) , and some even served in the bodyguard of David (# 2S 8:18 ; 2S # 15: 18).

great vengeance . This is accomplished during the invasion of Babylon 588-586 BC. BC or 582/581 BC. BC ( cf. Jer # 25: 20; # Jer 47:1-7 ) .
