ÉZÉKIEL 30 : 10 À 19 ***
10 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : Je ferai disparaître la multitude de l’Égypte, Par la main de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone.
11 Lui et son peuple avec lui, Le plus violent d’entre les peuples, Seront envoyés pour détruire le pays ; Ils tireront l’épée contre l’Égypte, Et rempliront le pays de morts.
12 Je mettrai les canaux à sec, Je livrerai le pays entre les mains des méchants ; Je ravagerai le pays et ce qu’il renferme, par la main des étrangers. Moi, l’Éternel, j’ai parlé.
13 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : J’anéantirai les idoles, Et j’ôterai de Noph les vains simulacres ; Il n’y aura plus de prince du pays d’Égypte, Et je répandrai la terreur dans le pays d’Égypte.
14 Je dévasterai Pathros, Je mettrai le feu à Tsoan, Et j’exercerai mes jugements sur No.
15 Je répandrai ma fureur sur Sin, la forteresse de l’Égypte, Et j’exterminerai la multitude de No.
16 Je mettrai le feu dans l’Égypte ; Sin sera saisie d’angoisse, No sera ouverte par la brèche, Et Noph conquise en plein jour par les ennemis.
17 Les jeunes hommes d’On et de Pi-Béseth tomberont par l’épée, Et ces villes iront en captivité.
18 A Tachpanès le jour s’obscurcira, Quand j’y briserai le joug de l’Égypte, Et que l’orgueil de sa force y prendra fin ; Un nuage couvrira Tachpanès, Et ses filles iront en captivité.
19 J’exercerai mes jugements sur l’Égypte, Et ils sauront que je suis l’Éternel.

30:10-11 Nebucadnetsar était l’instrument de Dieu.

canaux à sec. En dehors du Nil et de ses affluents, l’Égypte était désertique. Sa survie dépendait de l’inondation annuelle de ses terres par les crues du Nil.

Pathros. Grande région au sud de Memphis.
Tsoan. Cette ville clé de la partie est du delta du Nil était appelée Tanis par les Grecs.

Sin. Allusion à l’antique Péluse, ville clé à l’extrémité du bras oriental du Nil, près de la mer Méditerranée. Puisque « No » (Thèbes) et « Sin » se situaient près de frontières opposées de l’Égypte et que plusieurs villes sont citées, ce passage évoque un jugement réservé au pays tout entier.

Pi-Béseth. Cette ville se trouvait sur le bras nord-est du Nil. Les chats y étaient momifiés en l’honneur de Bastet, déesse à tête de chat.

Tachpanès. Cette ville, qui portait le nom d’une reine égyptienne, était un lieu de résidence des Pharaons.

10 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah : I will also make the multitude of Egypt, by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
11 He and his people with him , the terrible of the nations , shall be brought to destroy the land : and they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain .
12 I will make the rivers dry , I sell the land into the hands of the wicked, I will destroy the country and that is therein, by the hand of strangers . I the LORD have spoken.
13 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also destroy the idols, and I will remove from Memphis vain simulacra ; There will be more a prince of the land of Egypt , and I will put fear in the land of Egypt.
14 I Pathros desolate, and I will set fire in Zoan , and will execute judgments in No.
15 I will pour my fury upon Sin, the strength of Egypt, and will cut off the multitude of No.
16 I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall be in anguish, and No shall be opened by the breach , and Memphis won in broad daylight by the enemy .
17 The young men of On and Pibeseth fall by the sword , and these cities shall go into captivity .
18 A Tahpanhes the day shall be darkened , when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt : and the pomp of her strength shall cease in a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity.
19 And I will execute judgments on Egypt, and they shall know that I am the LORD.

rivers dry . Outside the Nile and its tributaries , Egypt was desert . His survival depended on the annual flooding of their lands by the flooding of the Nile .

Pathros . Large area south of Memphis.
Zoan . This key part of the city is the Nile delta was called by the Greeks Tanis .

Sin . Allusion to the ancient Pelusium , key city at the end of the eastern arm of the Nile, near the Mediterranean Sea. Since " No" (Thebes) and "Sin" were near opposite borders of Egypt and several cities are listed , this passage evokes a judgment reserved for the entire country.

Pi-beseth . This city was on the northeast arm of the Nile. Cats were mummified in honor of Bastet, cat -headed goddess .
