JÉRÉMIE 33 : 1 à 26 *** +
1 ¶ La parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie une seconde fois, en ces mots, pendant qu’il était encore enfermé dans la cour de la prison:
2 Ainsi parle l’Éternel, qui fait ces choses, L’Éternel, qui les conçoit et les exécute, Lui, dont le nom est l’Éternel:
3 Invoque-moi, et je te répondrai ; Je t’annoncerai de grandes choses, des choses cachées, Que tu ne connais pas.
Invoque-moi, et je te répondrai. Dieu invita Jérémie à le prier et à faire appel à lui pour accomplir les aspects de ses promesses auxquels il s’était engagé à prêter attention (comme 29:11-14; #Da 9:4-19 ; cf. #Jn 15: 7). La réponse à cette prière est assurée par les vv. #Jér 33:4-26 (cf. v. #Jér 33:14).
4 Car ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, Sur les maisons de cette ville Et sur les maisons des rois de Juda, Qui seront abattues par les terrasses et par l’épée,
5 Quand on s’avancera pour combattre les Chaldéens, Et qu’elles seront remplies des cadavres des hommes Que je frapperai dans ma colère et dans ma fureur, Et à cause de la méchanceté desquels je cacherai ma face à cette ville ;
6 Voici, je lui donnerai la guérison et la santé, je les guérirai, Et je leur ouvrirai une source abondante de paix et de fidélité.
7 Je ramènerai les captifs de Juda et les captifs d’Israël, Et je les rétablirai comme autrefois.
8 Je les purifierai de toutes les iniquités qu’ils ont commises contre moi, Je leur pardonnerai toutes les iniquités par lesquelles ils m’ont offensé, Par lesquelles ils se sont révoltés contre moi.
Une nouvelle fois, le Seigneur mit l’accent sur le salut spirituel et individuel, associé, dans le cadre de la nouvelle alliance, au retour d’Israël sur sa terre.
9 Cette ville sera pour moi un sujet de joie, de louange et de gloire, Parmi toutes les nations de la terre, Qui apprendront tout le bien que je leur ferai ; Elles seront étonnées et émues de tout le bonheur Et de toute la prospérité que je leur accorderai.
10 ¶ Ainsi parle l’Éternel : On entendra encore dans ce lieu Dont vous dites : Il est désert, il n’y a plus d’hommes, plus de bêtes ; On entendra dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, Dévastées, privées d’hommes, d’habitants, de bêtes,
11 Les cris de réjouissance et les cris d’allégresse, Les chants du fiancé et les chants de la fiancée, La voix de ceux qui disent: Louez l’Éternel des armées, Car l’Éternel est bon, car sa miséricorde dure à toujours ! La voix de ceux qui offrent des sacrifices d’actions de grâces Dans la maison de l’Éternel. Car je ramènerai les captifs du pays, je les rétablirai comme autrefois, Dit l’Éternel.
Louez l’Éternel. Mots du #Ps 136:1 que les Juifs prononcèrent effectivement à leur retour de Babylone (#Esd 3:11).
12 Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées : Il y aura encore dans ce lieu Qui est désert, sans hommes ni bêtes, Et dans toutes ses villes, Il y aura des demeures pour les bergers Faisant reposer leurs troupeaux.
13 Dans les villes de la montagne, dans les villes de la plaine, Dans les villes du midi, Dans le pays de Benjamin et aux environs de Jérusalem, Et dans les villes de Juda, Les brebis passeront encore sous la main de celui qui les compte, Dit l’Éternel.
14 Voici, les jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, Où j’accomplirai la bonne parole Que j’ai dite sur la maison d’Israël et sur la maison de Juda.
15 En ces jours et en ce temps-là, Je ferai éclore à David un germe de justice ; Il pratiquera la justice et l’équité dans le pays.
un germe. C`est à dire le Messie-roi de la lignée de David, comme en #Jér 23:5-6. Le règne de Christ suivra immédiatement sa seconde venue, son apparition en gloire (#Da 2:35, #Da 2:45 ; #Da 7:13-14, #Da 7:27 ; #Mt 16:27-28 ; #Mt 24: 30 ; #Mt 26:64).
16 En ces jours-là, Juda sera sauvé, Jérusalem aura la sécurité dans sa demeure ; Et voici comment on l’appellera : L’Éternel notre justice.
17 ¶ Car ainsi parle l’Éternel : David ne manquera jamais d’un successeur Assis sur le trône de la maison d’Israël ;

Dieu promit d’accomplir sans exception les alliances davidique (#2S 17) et lévitique/sacerdotale (#No 25:10-13). Cette promesse était aussi certaine que l’arrivée de la nuit et du jour et que le nombre incalculable d’étoiles et de grains de sable (cf. #Jér 31:35-37 ; #Jér 33:25-26 ; #Ps 74:16-17).
18 Les sacrificateurs, les Lévites, ne manqueront jamais devant moi de successeurs Pour offrir des holocaustes, brûler de l’encens avec les offrandes, Et faire des sacrifices tous les jours.
19 La parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie, en ces mots:
20 Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Si vous pouvez rompre mon alliance avec le jour Et mon alliance avec la nuit, En sorte que le jour et la nuit ne soient plus en leur temps,
21 Alors aussi mon alliance sera rompue avec David, mon serviteur, En sorte qu’il n’aura point de fils régnant sur son trône, Et mon alliance avec les Lévites, les sacrificateurs, qui font mon service.
22 De même qu’on ne peut compter l’armée des cieux, Ni mesurer le sable de la mer, De même je multiplierai la postérité de David, mon serviteur, Et les Lévites qui font mon service.
23 La parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie, en ces mots:
24 N’as-tu pas remarqué ce que disent ces gens : Les deux familles que l’Éternel avait choisies, il les a rejetées ? Ainsi ils méprisent mon peuple, Au point de ne plus le regarder comme une nation.

il les a rejetées. Beaucoup, même de nos jours, croient qu’Israël n’a aucun avenir en tant que nation. Aux vv. #Jér 33:25-26, Dieu apporte un démenti formel à cette conception erronée (cf. #Jér 31:35-36 ; #Ro 11:1-2).
25 Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Si je n’ai pas fait mon alliance avec le jour et avec la nuit, Si je n’ai pas établi les lois des cieux et de la terre,
26 Alors aussi je rejetterai la postérité de Jacob et de David, mon serviteur, Et je ne prendrai plus dans sa postérité ceux qui domineront Sur les descendants d’Abraham, d’Isaac et de Jacob. Car je ramènerai leurs captifs, et j’aurai pitié d’eux.
JEREMIAH 33 : 1 to 26 + NOTES TO JOHN MACARTHUR
1 ¶ And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, saying, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison,
2 Thus saith the LORD, who doeth these things, Jehovah, who conceiveth them, and executeth them, whose name is the LORD:
3 Call upon me, and I will answer you; I will tell you great things, hidden things, that you do not know.
Invoke me, and I will answer you. God invited Jeremiah to pray and call upon him to fulfill the aspects of his promises to which he had pledged to pay attention (as 29: 11-14, # 9: 4-19, cf. Jn 15: 7). The answer to this prayer is provided by the vv. Jeremiah 33: 4-26 (cf. Jeremiah 33:14).
4 For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, upon the houses of this city, and upon the houses of the kings of Judah, which shall be cut down by the pavement and by the sword,
5 When they shall go forth to fight against the Chaldeans, and they shall be filled with the bodies of men that I will smite in my anger and in my fury, and because of the wickedness of which I will hide my face from this city;
6 Behold, I will give him healing and health, I will heal them, and I will open to them an abundant source of peace and faithfulness.
7 I will bring back the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel, and I will restore them as before.
8 I will cleanse them from all the iniquities they have committed against me; I will forgive them all the iniquities by which they have offended me, by which they have rebelled against me.
Once again, the Lord emphasized spiritual and individual salvation, associated, as part of the new covenant, with the return of Israel to its land.
9 This city shall be for me a cause of joy and praise and glory among all the nations of the earth, Who shall learn all the good that I do unto them; They will be astonished and moved by all the happiness and prosperity I will bestow upon them.
10 ¶ Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall hear again in this place, Which ye say, It is a desert, there are no more men, no beasts; We shall hear in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, devastated, deprived of men, inhabitants, beasts,
11 The voice of those who say, Praise the LORD of hosts; for the LORD is good, for his mercy endureth for ever. ! The voice of those who offer sacrifices of thanksgiving in the house of the LORD. For I will bring back the captives of the land, and I will reestablish them as before, saith the LORD.
Praise the Lord. Words from #Ps 136: 1 which the Jews actually spoke when they returned from Babylon (#Esd 3:11).
12 Thus saith the LORD of hosts: There shall be in this place, which is desolate, without man or beast, and in all its cities, there shall be dwellings for the shepherds, setting their flocks to rest.
13 And in the cities of the hills, and in the cities of the plain, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the neighborhood of Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the sheep shall yet pass under the hand of him that Count, says the LORD.
14 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will fulfill the good word which I spoke concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
15 In those days and at that time, I will bring forth to David a germ of righteousness; He will practice justice and equity in the country.
A germ. That is the Messiah-king of the lineage of David, as in # Jer. 23: 5-6. The reign of Christ will immediately follow his second coming, his appearance in glory (#Da 2:35, #Da 2:45, #Da 7: 13-14, #Da 7:27, #Mt 16: 27-28; Mt 24:30; Mt 26:64).
16 In those days shall Judah be saved, Jerusalem shall have security in his dwelling; And this is how it will be called: The Lord our righteousness.
17 ¶ For thus saith the LORD, David shall not fail of a successor sitting on the throne of the house of Israel;
33: 17-22
God promised to fulfill, without exception, the Davidic (# 2S 17) and Levitical / Priestly (# 25: 10-13) covenants. This promise was as certain as the arrival of night and day, and the incalculable number of stars and grains of sand (cf. Jeremiah 31: 35-37; Jer. 33: 25-26; : 16-17).
18 And the priests, and the Levites, shall never fail of my successors, to offer burnt offerings, burn incense with offerings, and sacrifice every day.
19 And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,
20 Thus saith the LORD, If ye can break my covenant with the day, and my covenant with the night, so that day and night may not be in their time,
21 Then my covenant will be broken with David my servant, so that he will not have a son reigning on his throne, and my covenant with the Levites, the priests, who do my service.
22 As the army of heaven can not be counted, nor measure the sand of the sea; so shall I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister.
23 And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,
24 Have you not noticed what these people say: The two families that the Lord had chosen, he rejected them? Thus they despise my people, to the point of no longer looking upon it as a nation.
Two families. Judah and Israel.
He rejected them. Many, even today, believe that Israel has no future as a nation. In the vv. Jeremiah 33: 25-26, God gives a formal denial to this erroneous conception (cf. Jer. 31: 35-36, #Ro 11: 1-2).
25 Thus saith the LORD, If I have not made my covenant with the day and with the night, if I have not established the laws of the heavens and the earth,
26 Then will I also cast off the seed of Jacob and David my servant, and I will not take in his posterity those who will rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will bring back their captivity, and I will have mercy on them.
