1 ¶ Voici les stations des enfants d’Israël qui sortirent du pays d’Égypte, selon leurs corps d’armée, sous la conduite de Moïse et d’Aaron.
33:1-49 L’Éternel ordonna à Moïse de dresser une liste des diverses étapes d’Israël depuis l’Égypte jusqu’aux plaines de Moab. La mention de 40 lieux (sans compter Ramsès ni les plaines de Moab) est significative, puisqu’elle correspond aux 40 années passées dans le désert. Certains noms sont omis tandis que d’autres n’apparaissent qu’ici. Le Dieu qui allait conduire les Israélites dans la conquête de Canaan (#No 33:50-56) était celui qui les avait conduits à travers le désert.
2 Moïse écrivit leurs marches de station en station, d’après l’ordre de l’Éternel. Et voici leurs stations, selon leurs marches.
3 Ils partirent de Ramsès le premier mois, le quinzième jour du premier mois. Le lendemain de la Pâque, les enfants d’Israël sortirent la main levée, à la vue de tous les Égyptiens.
4 Et les Égyptiens enterraient ceux que l’Éternel avait frappés parmi eux, tous les premiers-nés ; l’Éternel exerçait aussi des jugements contre leurs dieux.
5 Les enfants d’Israël partirent de Ramsès, et campèrent à Succoth.
6 Ils partirent de Succoth, et campèrent à Etham, qui est à l’extrémité du désert.
7 Ils partirent d’Etham, se détournèrent vers Pi-Hahiroth, vis-à-vis de Baal-Tsephon, et campèrent devant Migdol.
8 Ils partirent de devant Pi-Hahiroth, et passèrent au milieu de la mer dans la direction du désert ; ils firent trois journées de marche dans le désert d’Etham, et campèrent à Mara.
9 Ils partirent de Mara, et arrivèrent à Elim ; il y avait à Elim douze sources d’eau et soixante-dix palmiers : ce fut là qu’ils campèrent.
10 Ils partirent d’Elim, et campèrent près de la mer Rouge.
11 Ils partirent de la mer Rouge, et campèrent dans le désert de Sin.
12 Ils partirent du désert de Sin, et campèrent à Dophka.
13 Ils partirent de Dophka, et campèrent à Alusch.
14 Ils partirent d’Alusch, et campèrent à Rephidim, où le peuple ne trouva point d’eau à boire.
15 Ils partirent de Rephidim, et campèrent dans le désert de Sinaï.
16 Ils partirent du désert du Sinaï, et campèrent à Kibroth-Hattaava.
17 Ils partirent de Kibroth-Hattaava, et campèrent à Hatséroth.

38 Le sacrificateur Aaron monta sur la montagne de Hor, suivant l’ordre de l’Éternel ; et il y mourut, la quarantième année après la sortie des enfants d’Israël du pays d’Égypte, le cinquième mois, le premier jour du mois.
39 Aaron était âgé de cent vingt-trois ans lorsqu’il mourut sur la montagne de Hor.
40 Le roi d’Arad, Cananéen, qui habitait le midi du pays de Canaan, apprit l’arrivée des enfants d’Israël.
41 Ils partirent de la montagne de Hor, et campèrent à Tsalmona.
42 Ils partirent de Tsalmona, et campèrent à Punon.
43 Ils partirent de Punon, et campèrent à Oboth.
44 Ils partirent d’Oboth, et campèrent à Ijjé-Abarim, sur la frontière de Moab.
45 Ils partirent d’Ijjé-Abarim, et campèrent à Dibon-Gad.
46 Ils partirent de Dibon-Gad, et campèrent à Almon-Diblathaïm.
47 Ils partirent d’Almon-Diblathaïm, et campèrent aux montagnes d’Abarim, devant Nebo.
48 Ils partirent des montagnes d’Abarim, et campèrent dans les plaines de Moab, près du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.
49 Ils campèrent près du Jourdain, depuis Beth-Jeschimoth jusqu’à Abel-Sittim, dans les plaines de Moab.
50 ¶ L’Éternel parla à Moïse dans les plaines de Moab, près du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho. Il dit:
33:50-56 Dieu ordonna l’extermination de tous les Cananéens et de tous leurs symboles idolâtriques.
33:50-36:13 Le pays promis avait représenté l’objectif d’Israël depuis le début du livre. Cette dernière section anticipe l’installation en Canaan.
51 Parle aux enfants d’Israël, et dis-leur : Lorsque vous aurez passé le Jourdain et que vous serez entrés dans le pays de Canaan,
52 vous chasserez devant vous tous les habitants du pays, vous détruirez toutes leurs idoles de pierre, vous détruirez toutes leurs images de fonte, et vous détruirez tous leurs hauts lieux.

53 Vous prendrez possession du pays, et vous vous y établirez ; car je vous ai donné le pays, pour qu’il soit votre propriété.
54 Vous partagerez le pays par le sort, selon vos familles. À ceux qui sont en plus grand nombre vous donnerez une portion plus grande, et à ceux qui sont en plus petit nombre vous donnerez une portion plus petite. Chacun possédera ce qui lui sera échu par le sort : vous le recevrez en propriété, selon les tribus de vos pères.
55 Mais si vous ne chassez pas devant vous les habitants du pays, ceux d’entre eux que vous laisserez seront comme des épines dans vos yeux et des aiguillons dans vos côtés, ils seront vos ennemis dans le pays où vous allez vous établir.
56 Et il arrivera que je vous traiterai comme j’avais résolu de les traiter.
En cas de désobéissance, Israël aurait à subir la même punition que celle infligée par Dieu aux Cananéens.

1 ¶ These are the journeys of the Israelites coming out of Egypt according to their armies under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
33: 1-49 The LORD commanded Moses to make a list of the various stages of Israel from Egypt to the plains of Moab. The mention of 40 places (not counting Ramses or the plains of Moab) is significant, since it corresponds to the 40 years in the desert. Some names are omitted while others appear here. The God who was to lead the Israelites in the conquest of Canaan (#No 33: 50-56) was the one who led them through the desert.
2 Moses wrote their marches station to station, according to the commandment of the LORD. And these are their journeys according to their steps.
3 They journeyed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month. The day after the Passover the children of Israel went out with a high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians.
4 And the Egyptians buried those whom Jehovah had smitten among them, all the firstborn; Jehovah also executed judgments against their gods.
5 The Israelites left Rameses and camped at Succoth.
6 They left Succoth and camped at Etham, which is at the edge of the wilderness.
7 They traveled from Etham, and turned back to Pihahiroth, vis-à-vis Baalzephon: and they pitched before Migdol.
8 They departed from before Pihahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness; they went three days in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah.
9 They traveled from Marah, and came to Elim; at Elim there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees: it was there they camped.
10 They traveled from Elim, and encamped by the Red Sea.
11 They left the Red Sea and camped in the wilderness of Sin.
12 They left the wilderness of Sin and camped at Dophkah.
13 They left Dophkah and camped at Alush.
14 They left Alush and camped at Rephidim, where the people there was no water to drink.
15 They left Rephidim and camped in the wilderness of Sinai.
16 They left the desert of Sinai, and pitched at Kibrothhattaavah.
17 And they departed from Kibrothhattaavah, and encamped at Hazeroth.
18 They departed from Hazeroth and camped at Rithmah.
19 They left Rithmah and camped at Rimmon Perez.
20 They left Rimmonparez, and pitched in Libnah.
21 They left Libnah and camped at Rissah.
22 And they journeyed from Rissah, and pitched in Kehelathah.
23 They went from Kehelathah and camped at Mount Shepher.
24 They left Mount Shepher and camped at Haradah.
25 They left Haradah and camped at Makheloth.
26 They left Makheloth and camped at Tahath.
27 They departed from Tahath and camped at Terah.
28 And they removed from Tarah, and pitched in Mithcah.
29 They went from Mithcah, and pitched in Hashmonah.
30 They left Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth.
31 They departed from Moseroth, and pitched in Benejaakan.
32 They left Benejaakan, and pitched in Horhagidgad.
33 They left Horhagidgad, and pitched in Jotbathah.
34 They traveled from Jotbathah, and encamped at Abronah.
35 They left Abronah and camped at Ezion Geber.
36 They left Ezion Geber and camped in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.
37 They left Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, at the extremity of the land of Edom.
38 Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD; and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel out of Egypt, the fifth month, the first day of the month.
39 Aaron was one hundred twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor.
40 The king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the children of Israel.
41 They left Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.
42 They left Zalmonah and camped at Punon.
43 They left Punon and camped at Oboth.
44 They left Oboth and camped at Ijeabarim, on the border of Moab.
45 They left Ijeabarim, and pitched in Dibon-gad.
46 They left Dibon Gad and camped at Almon-diblathaim.
47 They left Almon-diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo.
48 They left the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, opposite to Jericho.
49 And they pitched by Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth to Abel-shittim in the plains of Moab.
50 ¶ And the LORD spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, opposite to Jericho. He says:
33: 50-56 God ordered the extermination of all the Canaanites and all their idolatrous symbols.
33: 50-36: 13 The promised land had represented Israel's goal since the beginning of the book. This last section anticipates the settlement in Canaan.
51 Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When you have crossed the Jordan, and you come into the land of Canaan,
52 you shall drive you to all the inhabitants of the land, destroy all their stone idols, destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places.
their high places. That is to say, the hills on which the Canaanites erected altars and sacred pillars.
53 You will take possession of the land, and you dwell therein; For I have given you the land to possess it.
54 You shall inherit the land by lot according to your families. To those who are in greater number you shall give a greater portion, and to those who are in smaller numbers give you a smaller portion. Everyone will have what will be matured him by fate: you will receive an inheritance according to the tribes of your fathers.
55 But if ye will not drive out before you the inhabitants of the land, those of them that you will leave as thorns in your eyes and stings in your sides, they will be your enemies in the land where you dwell.
56 And it shall be that I will treat you as I thought to treat.
In case of disobedience, Israel would suffer the same punishment as that inflicted by God to the Canaanites.
