1 ¶ Louez l’Éternel ! Mon âme, loue l’Éternel !
146:1-10
À partir de ce psaume et jusqu’à la fin du psautier (#Ps 146:1-150:2), chaque hymne commence et se termine par une même exclamation: « Louez l’Éternel! » Ni l’auteur ni les circonstances qui ont présidé à la composition de ce texte ne sont connus. Du point de vue du contenu, il est similaire aux #Ps 113 et 145.

2 Je louerai l’Éternel tant que je vivrai, Je célébrerai mon Dieu tant que j’existerai.
3 Ne vous confiez pas aux grands, Aux fils de l’homme, qui ne peuvent sauver.
146:3-4
Ne vous confiez pas. Cette exhortation pourrait être:
1° un principe général;
2° une allusion au désir du peuple d’avoir un roi humain à sa tête, comme les autres nations (#1S 8:5);
3° une allusion à la situation de Juda, qui dépendait de rois étrangers pour sa protection (#2R 16:7-9).
4 Leur souffle s’en va, ils rentrent dans la terre, Et ce même jour leurs desseins périssent.
5 ¶ Heureux celui qui a pour secours le Dieu de Jacob, Qui met son espoir en l’Éternel, son Dieu !
celui … le Dieu de Jacob. C’était aussi le Dieu d’Abraham et d’Isaac; il s’agit donc d’une allusion aux bénédictions de l’alliance abrahamique (cf. #Ge 12:1-3 ; #Ps 144:15) et à ceux qui pouvaient en jouir.
6 Il a fait les cieux et la terre, La mer et tout ce qui s’y trouve. Il garde la fidélité à toujours.
C’est le Dieu qui a créé les cieux et la terre et qui révèle la vérité (autre traduction possible de « fidélité ») qui mérite le plus la confiance de l’homme.
7 Il fait droit aux opprimés ; Il donne du pain aux affamés ; L’Éternel délivre les captifs ;

Dans sa justice et sa miséricorde, Dieu cherche à atteindre ceux qui sont dans le besoin.
8 L’Éternel ouvre les yeux des aveugles ; L’Éternel redresse ceux qui sont courbés ; L’Éternel aime les justes.
9 L’Éternel protège les étrangers, Il soutient l’orphelin et la veuve, Mais il renverse la voie des méchants.

10 L’Éternel règne éternellement ; Ton Dieu, ô Sion ! subsiste d’âge en âge ! Louez l’Éternel !
règne éternellement. Au contraire de l’homme qui périt (cf. v. #Ps 146:4), les vérités des vv. 5-9 ne passent pas; elles ne sont pas temporelles, mais éternelles (cf. #Ap 22: 5).

1 ¶ Praise the LORD! My soul praise the LORD.
146: 1-10
From this psalm and to the end of the psalter (# Ps 146: 1-150: 2), each hymn begins and ends with the same exclamation: "Praise the Lord! Neither the author nor the circumstances which presided over the composition of this text are known. From the content point of view, it is similar to #Ps 113 and 145.

My soul. See the beginning and end of #Ps 103: 1-104: 2.
2 I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will praise my God as long as I live.
3 Do not entrust yourself to the great, To the sons of man, who can not save.
146: 3-4
Do not trust. This exhortation could be:
(1) a general principle;
(2) an allusion to the desire of the people to have a human king at their head, like the other nations (# 1S 8: 5);
(3) an allusion to the situation of Judah, which depended on foreign kings for its protection (# 2R 16: 7-9).
4 Their breath is gone, and they return to the earth, and that same day their designs perish.
5 ¶ Blessed is he that hath the help of the God of Jacob, that hath hope in the LORD his God.
That ... the God of Jacob. He was also the God of Abraham and Isaac; It is an allusion to the blessings of the Abrahamic covenant (cf. Ge 12: 1-3; #Ps 144: 15) and to those who could enjoy it.
6 He made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is therein. He keeps fidelity forever.
It is the God who created the heavens and the earth and reveals the truth (another possible translation of "fidelity") that most deserves the trust of man.
7 He gives right to the oppressed; He gives bread to the hungry; The LORD delivers the captives;

In his justice and mercy, God seeks to reach those who are in need.
8 Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind; The LORD restored those who were bowed down; The LORD loves the righteous.
9 Yahweh protects strangers, He supports the orphan and the widow, But he reverses the way of the wicked.
The way of the wicked. Cf. #Ps 1: 4-6; #Ps 145: 20.
10 The LORD reigneth for ever; Your God, O Zion! Survives from age to age! Praise the Lord!
Reigns eternally. Unlike the man who perished (cf. Ps 146: 4), the truths of vv. 5-9 do not pass; They are not temporal, but eternal (cf. Acts 22: 5).
