1 ¶ De David. L’Éternel est ma lumière et mon salut : De qui aurais-je crainte ? L’Eternel est le soutien de ma vie : De qui aurais-je peur ?
27:1-14
Ce psaume se caractérise par les contrastes saisissants, notamment entre lamentation et éloge, persécution et louange, guerre et adoration. Le psalmiste engage, en présence du Seigneur, trois conversations qui le conduisent à équilibrer les hauts et les bas de sa vie.
I. Conversation avec lui-même au sujet de ses privilèges (27:1-6)
II. Conversation avec le Seigneur au sujet de ses problèmes (27:7-12)
III. Conversation avec lui-même au sujet de la persévérance (27:13-14)
lumière. Image importante dans la Bible, aux connotations exclusivement positives, qui évoque l’éclat de la rédemption par contraste avec l’obscurité de la condamnation (cf. #Ps 18: 29 ; #Ps 36:10 ; #Ps 43:3 ; #Esa 60:1, #Esa 60:19-20 ; #Mi 7:8 ; #Jn 8:12 ; #Jn 12:46 ; #1Jn 1:5).
2 Quand des méchants s’avancent contre moi, Pour dévorer ma chair, Ce sont mes persécuteurs et mes ennemis Qui chancellent et tombent.
dévorer ma chair. Description des ennemis du psalmiste comme des bêtes immondes (cf. #Ps 7:3 ; #Ps 14: 4 ; #Ps 17: 12 ; #Job 19: 22 ; #Jér 30:16 ; #Jér 50:7). Cette formulation est aussi employée pour décrire les calomnies et diffamations (cf. un proche parallèle araméen en #Da 3:8 ; #Da 6:24).
chancellent et tombent. Ce doublet évoque une défaite totale (cf. #Esa 3:8 ; #Esa 8:15 ; #Esa 31:3 ; #Jér 46:6).
3 Si une armée se campait contre moi, Mon cœur n’aurait aucune crainte ; Si une guerre s’élevait contre moi, Je serais malgré cela plein de confiance.
4 Je demande à l’Eternel une chose, que je désire ardemment : Je voudrais habiter toute ma vie dans la maison de l’Eternel, Pour contempler la magnificence de l’Eternel Et pour admirer son temple.
une chose. Ce qui était essentiel pour David, c’était de pouvoir vivre dans la présence de Dieu et selon sa volonté (cf. #Ps 15:1 ; #Ps 23: 6 ; cf. Paul en #Ph 3:13).
5 Car il me protégera dans son tabernacle au jour du malheur, Il me cachera sous l’abri de sa tente ; Il m’élèvera sur un rocher.
son tabernacle. Pour David, jouir du privilège de la protection divine, c’était comme être caché dans un abri divin.
6 Et déjà ma tête s’élève sur mes ennemis qui m’entourent ; J’offrirai des sacrifices dans sa tente, au son de la trompette ; Je chanterai, je célébrerai l’Eternel.
7 ¶ Eternel ! écoute ma voix, je t’invoque : Aie pitié de moi et exauce-moi !
8 Mon cœur dit de ta part : Cherchez ma face ! Je cherche ta face, ô Eternel !
27:8-9
Cherchez ma face … ta face … ta face. La « face » de Dieu indique sa présence ou simplement son être (#Ps 24:6 ; #Ps 105:4); « chercher sa face », c’est ce qui caractérise fondamentalement le croyant authentique, désireux de vivre en communion avec Dieu (cf. #Ps 40:17 ; #De 4:29 ; #2Ch 11:16 ; #2Ch 20: 4 ; #Jér 50:4 ; #Os 3:5 ; #Za 8:22).
9 Ne me cache point ta face, Ne repousse pas avec colère ton serviteur ! Tu es mon secours, ne me laisse pas, ne m’abandonne pas, Dieu de mon salut !
10 Car mon père et ma mère m’abandonnent, Mais l’Éternel me recueillera.
11 Éternel ! enseigne-moi ta voie, Conduis-moi dans le sentier de la droiture, À cause de mes ennemis.
Même si les personnes les plus proches de David et les plus chères à son cœur risquaient de l’abandonner, il savait que son Seigneur prendrait toujours soin de lui (cf. #De 31:6, #De 31:8 ; #Esa 49:14-15 ; #Hé 13: 5).
12 Ne me livre pas au bon plaisir de mes adversaires, Car il s’élève contre moi de faux témoins Et des gens qui ne respirent que la violence.
13 Oh ! si je n’étais pas sûr de voir la bonté de l’Éternel Sur la terre des vivants ! …
14 Espère en l’Éternel ! Fortifie-toi et que ton cœur s’affermisse ! Espère en l’Éternel !
Espère … Espère. Littéralement « attends … attends ». Il s’agit d’une anticipation intense, soit impatiente soit patiente, de l’intervention du Seigneur (cf. #Ps 37:34 ; #Ps 40:2).

1 ¶ Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? The LORD is the support of my life: Of whom shall I be afraid?
27: 1-14
This psalm is characterized by striking contrasts, especially between lamentation and praise, persecution and praise, war and adoration. In the presence of the Lord, the psalmist engages in three conversations that lead him to balance the highs and lows of his life.
I. Conversation with Himself about His Privileges (27: 1-6)
II. Conversation with the Lord about His Problems (27: 7-12)
III. Conversation with Himself about Perseverance (27: 13-14)
light. An important image in the Bible with exclusively positive connotations that evokes the brightness of redemption in contrast with the darkness of condemnation (see #Ps 18:29; #Ps 36:10; #Ps 43: 3; Esa 60: 1, #Esa 60: 19-20, #Mi 7: 8, #Jn 8:12, #Jn 12:46, # 1Jn 1: 5).
2 When evildoers come up against me, to devour my flesh, they are my persecutors and my enemies who stagger and fall.
Devour my flesh. Description of the psalmist's enemies as unclean beasts (see #Ps 7: 3, #Ps 14: 4, #Ps 17:12, #Job 19:22, # Jer. 30:16, # Jer. 50: 7). This formulation is also used to describe calumny and defamation (see a near Aramaic parallel in #Da 3: 8; #Da 6:24).
Stagger and fall. This doublet evokes a total defeat (see #Esa 3: 8, #Esa 8:15, #Esa 31: 3, # Jer 46: 6).
3 If an army should encamp against me, my heart would have no fear; If there was a war against me, I would still be full of confidence.
4 I ask of the Lord one thing, which I earnestly desire: I would dwell all my days in the house of Jehovah, to contemplate the glory of Jehovah, and to admire his temple.
a thing. What was essential to David was to be able to live in the presence of God and according to his will (see #Ps 15: 1, #Ps 23: 6, cf Paul in #Ph 3:13).
5 For he will protect me in his tabernacle in the day of trouble, and will hide me under the cover of his tent; He will lift me up on a rock.
His tabernacle. For David, to enjoy the privilege of divine protection was like being hidden in a divine shelter.
6 And already my head is lifted up against my enemies round about me; I will offer sacrifices in his tent, at the sound of the trumpet; I will sing, I will celebrate Jehovah.
7 Yahweh! Listen to my voice, I call upon thee: Have mercy on me and hear me!
8 My heart says from thee, Seek my face. I seek thy face, O LORD.
27: 8-9
Look for my face ... your face ... your face. The "face" of God indicates his presence or simply his being (#Ps 24: 6; #Ps 105: 4); "To seek one's face," is what basically characterizes the authentic believer, eager to live in communion with God (see #Ps 40:17; #From 4:29; # 2Ch 11:16; # 2Ch 20: 4 ; Jeremiah 50: 4; # 3: 5; #Za 8:22).
9 Do not hide your face from me, Do not angrily reject your servant! You are my help, do not leave me, do not forsake me, God of my salvation!
10 For my father and my mother forsake me; but the LORD will receive me.
11 O LORD! Teach me thy way, lead me in the path of righteousness, because of my enemies.
Even though those closest to David and those most dear to his heart risked abandoning him, he knew that his Lord would always take care of him (cf. # 31: 6, # 31: 8; #Esa 49 14-15; Hebrews 13: 5).
12 Deliver me not to the good pleasure of my adversaries; for false witnesses against me rise up against me, and people who breathe nothing but violence.
13 Oh! If I were not sure to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! ...
14 Hope in the LORD! Strengthen and strengthen your heart! Hope in the Lord!
Hope ... Hope. Literally "wait ... expect". This is an intense anticipation, either impatient or patient, of the intervention of the Lord (see #Ps 37:34; #Ps 40: 2).
