37:1-40
Le #Ps 37, psaume alphabétique irrégulier, constitue un poème de sagesse adressé à l’homme, pas à Dieu. Les vv. #Ps 37:12-24 ressemblent beaucoup aux maximes des Proverbes. Les promesses de l’alliance concernant le « pays » d’Israël jouent un rôle important dans ces vv. (cf. vv. #Ps 37:3, #Ps 37:9, #Ps 37:11, #Ps 37:22, #Ps 37:29, #Ps 37:34). Le thème de base est celui de la sempiternelle question: « Pourquoi les impies prospèrent-ils alors que les croyants éprouvent tant de difficultés ici-bas? » La réponse de David se présente sous une forme compliquée. Il entremêle et assortit six pensées pour faire progresser son message principal concernant l’exercice de la justice divine.

1 ¶ Of David. Do not be angry with the wicked, Do not envy those who do evil.
37: 1-40
Psalm 37, an irregular alphabetic psalm, is a poem of wisdom addressed to man, not to God. The vv. #Ps 37: 12-24 very much resemble the maxims of Proverbs. The promises of the alliance concerning the "country" of Israel play an important role in these vv. (See vv. #Ps 37: 3, #Ps 37: 9, #Ps 37:11, #Ps 37:22, #Ps 37:29, #Ps 37:34). The basic theme is that of the perennial question: "Why do the impious thrive when believers are experiencing so many difficulties here below? David's answer is complicated. He interweaves and matches six thoughts to advance his main message concerning the exercise of divine justice.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; Have the land for dwelling and fidelity for pasture.

9 For the wicked shall be cut off, and they that hope in the LORD shall possess the land.
10 A little while, and the wicked is no more; You look at the place where he was, and he disappeared.

11 The wretches possess the land, and they abound in peace.
12 The wicked form projects against the righteous, And he grinds his teeth against him.

14 The wicked draw the sword, and they bend their bow, to bring down the poor and needy, to slaughter those whose way is upright.

18 The LORD knoweth the days of upright men, and their inheritance endureth for ever.

32 The wicked is watching the righteous, and he seeks to put him to death.

35 I have seen the wicked in all his power; It stretched like a verdant tree.
36 He is past, and behold, he is no more; I seek him, and he is no more.
37 Observe him that is upright, and see him that is upright; For there is a seed for the man of peace.
38 But the rebels are all destroyed, and the seed of the wicked is cut off.

39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; He is their protector at the time of distress.
The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord. Since salvation belongs to God (Psalm 3: 8), it is the eternal source (cf. #Ps 62: 2-3).
40 The LORD rescued them and delivered them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they seek refuge in him.
