1 ¶ (75-1) Au chef des chantres. Ne détruis pas. Psaume d’Asaph. Cantique. (75-2) Nous te louons, ô Dieu ! nous te louons ; Ton nom est dans nos bouches ; Nous publions tes merveilles.
75:1-11
Dans ce psaume, la communauté des croyants affirme, en dépit des problèmes physiques, moraux et sociaux, que Dieu ne perd jamais le contrôle qu’il exerce sur l’univers. C’est lui qui assure sa stabilité à la vie terrestre, et il jugera les méchants à l’heure de son choix. La structure du texte tourne autour de trois métaphores: les colonnes de la terre (v. #Ps 75:4); la corne (en hébreu, vv. 5-6, 11); la coupe de la colère divine (v. #Ps 75:9).

Ne détruis pas. C’étaient sans doute les premiers mots d’un chant célèbre, et ce psaume devait être chanté sur la même mélodie. Voir note sur {==> "Ps 16: 1"}.
ton nom est dans nos bouches. Le « nom » de Dieu symbolisait sa présence. L’histoire des interventions surnaturelles de l’Éternel en faveur de son peuple montrait qu’il s’agissait d’une immanence de type personnel. Cependant, les croyants de l’A.T. ne connaissaient pas la plénitude offerte par la présence permanente du Saint-Esprit dans chaque croyant (cf. #Jn 14: 1, #Jn 14:16-17 ; #1Co 3:16 ; #1Co 6:19).
2 (75-3) Au temps que j’aurai fixé, Je jugerai avec droiture.
3 (75-4) La terre tremble avec tous ceux qui l’habitent : Moi, j’affermis ses colonnes. — Pause.
j’affermis ses colonnes. Quand les temps sont incertains, Dieu, à travers la « grâce commune », donne la stabilité aux sociétés.
4 (75-5) Je dis à ceux qui se glorifient: Ne vous glorifiez pas ! Et aux méchants : N’élevez pas la tête !
N’élevez pas la tête! Ou « la corne », symbole de force et de majesté, pour l’homme autant que pour les animaux (cf. #De 33:17 ; #Am 6:13 ; #Za 1:18-21). Le geste de lever les cornes caractérisait un animal rétif, qui refusait d’être placé sous le joug et le manifestait en levant la tête aussi haut que possible. Cette expression était donc synonyme d’insolence et de rébellion.
5 (75-6) N’élevez pas si haut votre tête, Ne parlez pas avec tant d’arrogance !
6 ¶ (75-7) Car ce n’est ni de l’orient, ni de l’occident, Ni du désert, que vient l’élévation.
7 (75-8) Mais Dieu est celui qui juge : Il abaisse l’un, et il élève l’autre.
8 (75-9) Il y a dans la main de l’Éternel une coupe, Où fermente un vin plein de mélange, Et il en verse : Tous les méchants de la terre sucent, boivent jusqu’à la lie.
coupe. La coupe de la colère désignait le jugement que Dieu fait subir aux méchants (cf. #Job 21: 20 ; #Esa 51:17 ; #Jér 25:15-29 ; #Mt 20: 22 ; #Mt 26:39).
9 (75-10) Je publierai ces choses à jamais ; Je chanterai en l’honneur du Dieu de Jacob. -
10 (75-11) Et j’abattrai toutes les forces des méchants ; Les forces du juste seront élevées.
j’abattrai toutes les forces. Abattre les forces (littéralement « les cornes ») des méchants, c’était les humilier (cf. v. #Ps 75:5).

1 ¶ (75-1) To the chief singer. Do not destroy. Psalm of Asaph. Canticle. (75-2) We praise you, O God! We praise thee; Your name is in our mouths; We publish your wonders.
75: 1-11
In this psalm, the community of believers asserts, despite physical, moral, and social problems, that God never loses control over the universe. It is he who ensures his stability to earthly life, and he will judge the wicked at the hour of his choice. The structure of the text revolves around three metaphors: the pillars of the earth (see #Ps 75: 4); The horn (in Hebrew, vv. 5-6, 11); The cup of divine wrath (v. #Ps 75: 9).

Do not destroy. These were doubtless the first words of a celebrated song, and this psalm was to be sung on the same melody. See note on {==> "Ps 16: 1"}.
Your name is in our mouths. God's "name" symbolized his presence. The history of the supernatural interventions of the Lord in favor of his people showed that it was a personal immanence. However, the believers of the A.T. Did not know the fulness offered by the permanent presence of the Holy Spirit in every believer (cf. Jn 14: 1, Jn 14: 16-17, # 1Co 3:16; # 1Co 6:19).
2 (75-3) At the time I have set, I will judge righteously.
3 (75-4) And the earth trembleth with all that dwell therein: I have strengthened its pillars. - Pause.
I confirm his columns. When times are uncertain, God, through "common grace", gives stability to societies.
4 (75-5) I say to those who glory: Do not boast! And to the wicked: Do not lift your head!
Do not lift your head! Or "the horn", a symbol of strength and majesty, for man as well as for animals (cf. # 33:17; #Am 6:13; #Za 1: 18-21). The gesture of lifting the horns marked a rebellious animal, which refused to be placed under the yoke and manifested it by raising its head as high as possible. This expression was therefore synonymous with insolence and rebellion.
5 (75-6) Do not raise your head so high, Do not speak so arrogantly!
6 ¶ (75-7) For it is neither the east nor the west, nor the desert, that the elevation comes.
7 But God is he who judges: He loweth the one, and raiseth up the other.
8 (75-9) There is a cup in the hand of the LORD, where a wine full of wine is fermented, And he pours out of it: All the wicked of the earth suck, drink to the dregs.
chopped off. The cup of wrath signified the judgment which God subjected to the wicked (cf. #Job 21:20; #Esa 51:17; # Jeremiah 25: 15-29; #Mt 20:22; #Mt 26:39).
9 (75-10) I will publish these things forever; I will sing in honor of the God of Jacob. -
10 (75-11) And I will bring down all the strength of the wicked; The forces of the righteous will be elevated.
I will take down all the forces. To bring down the forces (literally "the horns") of the wicked was to humiliate them (cf. Ps 75: 5).
