¶ Demandez à l’Éternel la pluie, la pluie du printemps ! L’Éternel produira des éclairs, Et il vous enverra une abondante pluie, Il donnera à chacun de l’herbe dans son champ.
Demandez à l’Éternel la pluie. Étant donné les bénédictions promises en #Za 9:17, le prophète encouragea le peuple à demander ces bénédictions au Seigneur, en toute confiance. Il y aura effectivement, dans le millénium (cf. #Esa 35:1-7), des pluies du printemps (avril/mai) qui feront prospérer la terre. Toutefois, cette promesse va au-delà du sens littéral pour annoncer aussi des bénédictions spirituelles (cf. #Os 6:1-3): la grâce et la bonté de Dieu, qui rafraîchiront l’âme (cf. #Esa 44:3).
2 Car les théraphim ont des paroles de néant, Les devins prophétisent des faussetés, Les songes mentent et consolent par la vanité. C’est pourquoi ils sont errants comme un troupeau, Ils sont malheureux parce qu’il n’y a point de pasteur.
les théraphim … les devins. À la différence de l’Éternel et de l’abondance qu’il procure, les idoles ou divinités domestiques (cf. #Ge 31:19, #Ge 31:34) et les diseurs de bonne aventure démoniaques avaient laissé Israël pareil à des brebis sans berger (cf. #Ez 34:6-10). Dieu allait exercer son jugement contre eux à cause de leurs tromperies (v. #Za 10:3). Ces paroles impliquent qu’une situation similaire prévaudra dans les temps de la fin, et le N.T. le confirme (cf. #Mt 24: 5, #Mt 24: 11, #Mt 24:22-28 ; #2Th 1:8-12).
3 Ma colère s’est enflammée contre les pasteurs, Et je châtierai les boucs ; Car l’Éternel des armées visite son troupeau, la maison de Juda, Et il en fera comme son cheval de gloire dans la bataille ;
son cheval de gloire. Même s’il ressemble plutôt à une brebis, une fois revêtu de la force que Dieu lui conférera, Israël deviendra un cheval de guerre invincible capable de l’emporter sur ses ennemis (#Za 12: 8).
4 De lui sortira l’angle, de lui le clou, de lui l’arc de guerre ; De lui sortiront tous les chefs ensemble.
l’angle. Ou « la pierre angulaire », titre messianique fréquemment employé (cf. #Esa 28:16 ; #Ep 2:20 ; #1Pi 2:6-8). Christ est le fondement sur lequel repose le royaume de Dieu.
le clou. Probablement le clou planté dans le piquet central de la tente, où l’on suspendait les ustensiles et les objets de valeur. Le Messie constitue ce clou au milieu de son royaume, car c’est de lui que dépendra toute la gloire de ce royaume (cf. #Za 6:13 ; #Esa 22:23-24).
l’arc de guerre … chefs. Autres allusions au Messie (cf. #Za 9:13 ; #Ap 19:11-16), à l’autorité duquel tous les autres dirigeants seront soumis.
5 ¶ Ils seront comme des héros foulant dans la bataille la boue des rues ; Ils combattront, parce que l’Éternel sera avec eux ; Et ceux qui seront montés sur des chevaux seront couverts de honte.
l’Éternel sera avec eux. Cette comparaison avec des fantassins victorieux de la cavalerie adverse (cf. #Za 12:1-9) illustre la puissance des membres du peuple de Dieu lorsque Dieu est « avec eux ».
6 Je fortifierai la maison de Juda, Et je délivrerai la maison de Joseph ; Je les ramènerai, car j’ai compassion d’eux, Et ils seront comme si je ne les avais pas rejetés ; Car je suis l’Éternel, leur Dieu, et je les exaucerai.
la maison de Juda … la maison de Joseph. Les royaumes du sud et du nord seront tous les deux restaurés pour recouvrer leur statut de nations bénies, lorsque le peuple tout entier jouira des bénédictions du millénium (cf. #Jér 32:37).
car je suis l’Éternel, leur Dieu. La restauration d’Israël repose sur Dieu qui, respectant son alliance, a réaffirmé maintes et maintes fois son engagement inconditionnel et perpétuel en faveur de son peuple. Les malédictions de #De 28:15-68, devenues réalité lors de la déportation en Assyrie puis à Babylone, n’avaient pas abrogé les bénédictions promises par Dieu à Israël et ne les avaient pas fait passer à un autre peuple. Même après la crucifixion du Messie, Pierre répéta aux Juifs qu’ils étaient toujours en mesure de recevoir la promesse (cf. #Ac 2:39) en raison de l’alliance abrahamique: elle était toujours d’actualité, et ils demeuraient le peuple de la promesse (#Ac 3:25).
7 Éphraïm sera comme un héros ; Leur cœur aura la joie que donne le vin ; Leurs fils le verront et seront dans l’allégresse, Leur cœur se réjouira en l’Éternel.
La joie d’Israël, restauré au début du millénium, est présentée comme similaire à l’euphorie procurée par le vin (cf. #Esa 66:10-14 ; #Sop 3:14-20).
8 Je les sifflerai et les rassemblerai, car je les rachète, Et ils multiplieront comme ils multipliaient.
Je les sifflerai. Cette prophétie résumait ce qui avait été évoqué, c’est-à-dire l’appel lancé par le Messie à Israël pour la rédemption et le rassemblement dans le pays promis (cf. #Esa 5:26). Comme c’était le cas en Égypte (cf. #Ex 1:8-22), ceux qui sont protégés par Dieu en raison de leur foi dans le Messie survivront à la tribulation et entreront dans le millénium pour se multiplier abondamment (cf. #Za 2:4 ; #Esa 54:1-3).
9 Je les disperserai parmi les peuples, Et au loin ils se souviendront de moi ; Ils vivront avec leurs enfants, et ils reviendront.
10:9-10 Ces vv. fournissent un nouveau résumé en précisant que, après les avoir dispersés dans le monde entier (en 70 apr. J.-C.), Dieu ramènera les Israélites dans le pays promis afin qu’ils peuplent le royaume messianique (cf. #Esa 11:11-12 ; #Esa 49:20-22).
10 Je les ramènerai du pays d’Égypte, Et je les rassemblerai de l’Assyrie ; Je les ferai venir au pays de Galaad et au Liban, Et l’espace ne leur suffira pas.
11 Il passera la mer de détresse, il frappera les flots de la mer, Et toutes les profondeurs du fleuve seront desséchées ; L’orgueil de l’Assyrie sera abattu, Et le sceptre de l’Égypte disparaîtra.
Comme lorsqu’Israël avait dû traverser la mer Rouge, Dieu retirera tout ce qui pourrait faire obstacle, aussi bien du point de vue géographique que politique, au retour de son peuple dans son pays pour le royaume messianique. L’Assyrie et l’Égypte, ennemis traditionnels d’Israël, symbolisent toute nation qui essaierait de s’opposer à l’Éternel dans l’accomplissement de son plan (cf. #Esa 11:11-12).
12 Je les fortifierai par l’Éternel, Et ils marcheront en son nom, Dit l’Éternel.
ils marcheront en son nom. Le peuple d’Israël sera le messager de son Messie dans le millénium. C’est la restauration totale dont il est question en #Ez 36:21-38 ; #Ez 37:1-14, #Ez 37:22-28.
ZECHARIAH 10 : 1 à 12
¶ Ask of Jehovah rain, spring rain! The LORD make bright clouds, and it will send you abundant rain, He will give to every one grass in the field.
Ask the Lord rain. Since the blessings promised in #Za 9:17, the prophet encouraged the people to ask these blessings the Lord with confidence. There will indeed, in the millennium (cf. #Esa 35: 1-7), rainy spring (April / May) that will prosper the land. However, this promise goes beyond the literal sense to also announce spiritual blessings (see #Os 6: 1-3): the grace and goodness of God, which will refresh the soul (cf. #Esa 44: 3 ).
2 For the idols have words, the diviners falsehoods, Dreams lie, and by vanity. That is why they wander like sheep, They are unhappy because there was no shepherd.
the idols ... soothsayers. Unlike Jehovah and abundance it provides, the household gods or deities (cf. 31:19 #Ge, #Ge 31:34) and good demonic wizards had left Israel like to sheep without a shepherd (cf. #Ez 34: 6-10). God would exercise judgment against them because of their deception (v #Za. 10: 3). These words imply that a similar situation will prevail in the end-time, and confirms the NT (cf. #Mt 24: 5, #Mt 24: 11 #Mt 24: 22-28; # 2Th 1: 8 12).
3 My anger is kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: For the LORD of hosts visits his flock the house of Judah, and will make them as his goodly horse in the battle;
his majestic horse. Although it looked like a sheep, once coated with the strength that God will give it, Israel will become an invincible war horse able to prevail over his enemies (#Za 12: 8).
4 From him come the cornerstone, from him the nail, from him the battle bow; From him every ruler together.
the angle. Or "cornerstone", frequently used Messianic title (cf. #Esa 28:16; #EP 2:20; # 1 Peter 2: 6-8). Christ is the foundation upon which the kingdom of God.
the nail. Probably the nail in the center pole of the tent, where they hung utensils and valuables. The Messiah is the nail in the middle of his kingdom, for it is from him that will depend all the glory of the kingdom (cf. #Za 6:13; #Esa 22: 23-24).
the battle bow ... chefs. Other allusions to the Messiah (cf. 9:13 #Za; #Ap 19: 11-16), to whose authority all other officers will be submitted.
¶ 5 They shall be as mighty in battle trampling the mud of the streets; They fight because the LORD is with them; And those who will ride on horses shall be confounded.
the Lord will be with them. This comparison with the victorious infantry of the enemy cavalry (see #Za 12: 1-9) illustrates the power of the People of God when God is "with them."
6 And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph; I will bring them back because I have compassion on them, and they shall be as though I had not rejected them; For I am the LORD their God, and will hear them.
the house of Judah ... the house of Joseph. The kingdoms of the South and North will both be restored to regain their status as nations blessed, when all the people enjoy the blessings of the millennium (see # Jer 32:37).
for I am the LORD their God. The restoration of Israel is based on God, respecting his alliance, reiterated time and again its unconditional and perpetual commitment of its people. # Of the curses of 28: 15-68, became reality during the deportation to Assyria and Babylon, had not repealed the blessings promised by God to Israel and had the not passed to other people. Even after the crucifixion of the Messiah, Peter repeated the Jews that they were always able to receive the promise (cf. #AC 2:39) because of the Abrahamic covenant: it was still valid, and they remained the people of the promise (#AC 3:25).
7 Ephraim will be like a hero; Their heart shall rejoice as through wine; Their son will see it and be glad, Their heart will rejoice in the LORD.
The joy of Israel, restored at the beginning of the millennium is presented as similar to the euphoria provided by the wine (see #Esa 66: 10-14; #Sop 3: 14-20).
8 I will whistle for them and gather them; for I have redeemed them, and they shall increase as they have increased.
I hiss. This prophecy summarized what had been discussed, that is to say, the call of the Messiah in Israel for redemption and the gathering into the promised land (cf. #Esa 5:26). As was the case in Egypt (cf. #Ex 1: 8-22), who are protected by God because of their faith in the Messiah will survive the tribulation and enter the millennium to multiply abundantly (cf. #Za 2: 4; #Esa 54: 1-3).
9 I will sow them among the peoples, And away they will remember me; They will live with their children, and turn again.
10: 9-10 These verses. provide a new summary stating that, after dispersing them around the world (in 70 A.D.), God will bring the Israelites into the promised land that they inhabit the Messianic kingdom (cf. #Esa 11 : 11-12; #Esa 49: 20-22).
10 I will bring them out of Egypt, and gather them from Assyria; I will bring them to Gilead and Lebanon, and place shall not suffice them.
11 He spent the distress sea, strike the waves of the sea, and all the depths of the river shall dry The pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the scepter of Egypt will disappear.
As when Israel had to cross the Red Sea, God will remove all potential obstacles, both geographically and politically, to the return of his people in his country to the Messianic kingdom. Assyria and Egypt, traditional enemies of Israel symbolize the whole nation that tried to oppose the Lord in carrying out his plan (see #Esa 11: 11-12).
12 I will strengthen them in the Lord, and they shall walk in his name, saith the LORD.
they shall walk in his name. The people of Israel will be the messenger of the Messiah in the millennium. This is the total restoration discussed in #Ez 36: 21-38; #Ez 37: 1-14, #Ez 37: 22-28.
